Gonna show my age again. I watched this show during its original run.

Zoot!

Early years for me, but yeah this is one I've seen live on TV when it aired. At least some of it!

Interesting concept to the show. Cops as the bad guys.

And now you've seen this pilot. Neat. True, you're not the target demographic. Not sure if I've seen the pilot before. The corrupt police force angle in the series was pretty edgy back in the day. And car chases in a rural setting was pretty uncommon, mostly, only cop shows in a city had car chases.

This was a fave show of mine growing up.

seen some of it at the time (or reruns) , it has not aged well, seems silly now, fun when i was a kid

I believe the tv show The Dukes of Hazzard (1979) was created to capitalize on the popularity of the movie Smokey and the Bandit (1977). I did enjoy Smokey and the Bandit but not enough to watch this semi-knockoff. Now that I have seen the pilot, I don't feel that I missed out. I'm not sure why the country humor did not appeal to me in this pilot because in the 1960s The Beverly Hillbillies was my favorite sitcom (really showing my age).

Paul Gibson

I watched a few as a kid and quite enjoyed it but married your fat sister is not a joke that plays well today and it's one of many

Not really fair to compare a TV series to its big budget movie 'inspiration'. :) Both Dukes combined don't have the charisma to make Burt's mustache. Gosh, now I need to watch Smokey and the Bandit, haven't seen that for a bit.

I remember when everyone was watching this and had the lunchboxes, but I wasn't allowed to. My mom did NOT like the CSA flag and Dixie on the car. (Of course, I knew a bunch of it by osmosis anyway.)

I was excited to watch this, because I watched the show as a kid but yeah, it hasn't aged well. Not all shows from the 80's are this cheesy. I hope you liked the pilot I picked a bit better. It's from the same era but not so goofy, cheery and reliant on action and chases to keep it going. In any case, it was still fun to revisit the memories of this show back in the day.

The episode on Smalleville you refered to at the start was when Jonathan was given the idea of running for mayor by his friend who played the character of Luke Duke in Dukes of Hazard. They refer to the car and having to get in and out through the window and Lionel refers the the term Good old Boy... It was all in fun for thoes of us who know the back story of John Schneider. This is not a show everyone would appreciate, but its nice for everyone to at least attempt the classics.

I wasn't really a fan of this. I haven't seen sound of music.
