Aunt Marie is bald because of cancer treatment (on her hospital sign in one scene it says something about chemotherapy).

It's also explained very briefly in the pilot episode that Nick can see the creatures when they lose momentary emotional control. So if they're chill, or they have their emotions under control they don't appear in their creature form, but as soon as they get a little bit angry or upset, annoyed, etc then their creature/animal face is visible to a Grimm. So the young guy would've felt under pressure with the questions & his emotional state would've caused him to change briefly, whereas the Dad not knowing what was going on had no reason to be worried and therefore no emotional reaction - with the Mum she would've been perhaps a bit better at emotional control due to age and more experience, theoretically.

The name of the creature in this episode (Jägerbar) translates to 'Hunter Bear' as well.

When the show aired, German speakers didn't seem to like all the names either. Not because the show uses so much German folklore in the stories but because they don't pronounce anything correctly. I think most of the quotes at the start of each episode come from Grimm Fairy Tales. I don't know if it was ever confirmed that the mispronunciations were intentional but a lot of viewers thought they were. Partly to emphasize the *fantasy* nature of the show and partly to use words that just sound better to US viewers.

From memory the fans came up with the theory that the German they spoke being mispronounced was because it was some sort of special Grimm dialect of German, or something like that at least.

I was wondering if you noticed the the girl broke into the house ate the food and "slept" in the bed was named Gilda, which is old English for Gold as in "Goldie Locke and the Three Bears". There were also three "bears" living in that house, a mama bear, papa bear and a "baby" bear.

Someone else has likely already told you about the show using Grimm's fairy tales. The original Grimm stories were much darker than the cleaned up commercial versions we see today, and on Disney. So some of the episodes are homage to those stories. But you likely already know that now.

The aunt is bald because of Chemotherapy. She's got cancer and chemo makes some people lose their hair. A Grimm can only see their true faces when they Turn, or when they are emotional and their cover slips. The parents hadn't turned or let their cover slip, so he didn't see them. VooDoo Donuts!!!

Yeh you could say they were a little darker like a woodsman cutting open the big bad wolf after killing it to recover little red ridding hood, or sleeping beauty waking up pregnant, or Cinderella’s step sisters one smashed her feet and the others cut off her toes to try to fit in the slipper and so on there are more examples I could give they were meant to scare children to teach them lessons not as warm and fuzzy feel good stories. Personally I find the Disney versions much less likely to scare a child for life and that’s a plus in my book.
