I LOVE this episode, and for me to love such a Jensen-lite episode really speaks to how good it is. The actor who played "Old Dean" was a man named Chad Everett - and he was kind of a big deal in the 60s-70s. He did a lot of cowboy type roles. Which is why, I think, he made such a good Dean. He had that swagger down pat. The He-Witch Patrick was a really interesting character to me. He certainly wasn't a good guy, but he had a set of values that he lived by ... and him giving the old man enough years to make it to his granddaughter's bat mitzvah was so sweet. Oh, a "booster shot" is a second shot that you get to make sure the infection has been cleared up. So Sam was going to a VD clinic to get some more penicillin. Take care, see you next week.

Actually, a booster shot is a set of vaccinations against mumps, measles, rubella and whooping cough. Children get their first round of vaccinations in the US around age ten, and most vaccinations are good for life, but some like whooping cough need to be renewed after ten years, and some colleges require a meningitis vaccine before freshmen even set foot on campus. Basically, it was a way of showing that Sam is still the baby of the group.

Actually Jean, a booster shot is given to adults every 10 years. It's a strengthening of the immune system to help prevent certain illnesses. It's also known as a tetanus shot.

And if you have a virulent infection, such as the "clap", you are often given another antibiotic shot several days after the first to "boost" the effect. The term booster, in the colloquial, is used to mean an extra bump of something.
