I normally watch Buffy first but this episode is so so good, straight here first. Great episode from start to finish with chilling ending!

Chaotic Cam

Lol, great reaction! Honestly this episode is so deep and I love how in Angel they truly explore grey areas, and not even our 'heroes' are always in the right. There's many lines of grey in this show and I love it. Also, your comments on your love for Dru made me giggle. Ah, I just love her too! And that bit with her dancing to the phone always makes me laugh.

Drusilla and Spike tried to kill Angel in "What's My Line." She also went toe-to-toe with Spike and Kendra in "Becoming," so we know she is a good fighter.

Chaotic Cam

You know, I've always theorized (and this isn't ever confirmed or denied, it's just a fan theory so no spoilers) that subconsciously there's a part of Drusilla that resents Angelus for what he did to her, but he twisted her so much that she 'loves' him, but when he's Angel he's not the 'daddy' she loves so she lets out her subconscious anger then. It's a really twisted family dynamic when you think about it. Especially during your realization when they're not only 'family' but some are 'lovers' as well. Vampires, huh? Lol.

Anonymous

Drusilla is amazing but damn that ending is just wrong. I mean they deserved it but it wasn't right and he has a soul :( It's kind of like a mirror image when he left the people at the hotel in episode 2. doesn't he learn?

Chris Peacock

Willow can't do anything for Darla without an Orb of Thesulah. They don't still have the one from season 2.

Chris Peacock

Notice how Dru called him Angelus for a good chunk of the episode. We've seen her call him Angel plenty of times so it's not just because that's what she calls him. She could feel it. Inside him. She could feel that while he wasn't Angelus, he wasn't really Angel either. She warned W+H that Angelus was coming and I never found that to be a mistake in the script. Even if it also wasn't exactly true.

Chris Peacock

Still not time for me to defend Kate. I promise it will come eventually. lol. That said, we are pretty much just supposed to take that she realized she was wrong about Angel. Not vampires overall (which she wasn't).

Anonymous

I think you are right. That is how I read the torture scene in "What's My Line." Maybe it is the fact that Angel gets to be almost human again. He made her a monster and now he himself gets another shot at being a person.

Chris Peacock

I never had a problem with Angel letting the lawyers die, but I thought he should have stood outside the room to kill Darla and Dru after. (From a practical standpoint, not from a where I want the story to take us standpoint)

Holi117

“And yet... I just can’t seem to care” omg I love that part! I know its wrong but Angel is SO much more interesting and entertaining to watch when he’s a littl mad or a little bad lol!

Holi117

I agree... “its not daddy... its never daddy... its the angel-beast!” She loves Angelus - her daddy, but she knows what she loves is missing or hidden away when angel has his soul.

Anonymous

It does make sense, she has visions so :/ But Dru is a gift, me and my siblings still obsess over her and her fascination with stars. That scene with her and Darla on the street is iconic Angel too. Great stuff this season and it only gets better imo

Anonymous

Wasn't the last time we saw Kate when Angel bit her to save her life, so it does make sense that she helped him out because he practically saved her life.

Anonymous

It was such a bad ass moment, man I hated him on Buffy he was giving me that Edward from Twilight vibe but even though this was wrong it was bad ass so I'm conflicted.

Anonymous

I'm ringing all over LOL, That's what I love about Angel, it's such a grey show, but the gang told him at the end that what he did was wrong but getting rid of those lawyers would save many lives so yeah grey area.

Anonymous

ASR even though you're enjoying these last few episodes of Angel, are you missing Wesley and Cordy since it's mostly centered around the Darla arc? :)

Holi117

Haha! I know! Maybe i’m twisted but he is just not half as fun when he’s plain ol’ angel haha! I like him better with a darker side... i just remember watching this episode and freaking out like”omg! Yes! Get ‘em!”

Chris Peacock

I know Giles doesn't have one in stock, but they could order one for sure. However, Angel kind of needed the help right now. Honestly though, I always felt they should have a ton on hand and resoul any new vamp. One fresh out of the grave wouldn't even have all the guilt that Angel had. They could either go about as close to a normal life as possible at that point or they could even start helping the cause. I guess they are probably very rare. The show was vague about how many are out there. Angelus seemed confident that destroying Jenny's made him safe so probably pretty rare.

Talmet

Chris, your comments could be interpreted as sort of spoilery...and ASR has asked people not to do that. i.e. she asked for people to not say "such and such will be explained later." which is sort of what you are saying. ASR, as someone who has watched the whole show many times, I have no idea what Chris is actually talking about, so I don't think his comment actually is a spoiler. I just think that you might take it to mean something about a future episode.

Miah

I love how this show explores the fact that just because Angel has a soul, it doesn't automatically make him "good". Tim Minear is exceptionally good at showing this (i.e. Are You Now or Have You Ever Been). Somnambulist touched on this as well. "They're not nightmares. I've enjoyed them."

Talmet

As Buffy/Angel came out like 10-15 years before Twilight, I'm pretty sure you have that backwards. It is possible that they modeled Edward's character on Angel...wasn't twilight originally a Buffy fanfic? If so, it'd make sense for the characters to be similar.

Miah

I did too! As much as I love silly snakes, watching Angel doom a bunch of lawyers to die was just too tempting so I skipped ahead.

Spencer Williams

I would say the difference in this case is after all the crap she has put Angel through, he was still willing to go as far as he did to save her life. I guess it finally clicked for her that Angel is not the person she thought he was. Having said that, I'm rewatching Angel alongside you and this happens to be my first rewatch in a pretty long time. So I actually don't even really remember how all of this Kate stuff plays out, lol.

Chris Peacock

In the comment that is gone? All I said in that one is I can’t say anything. Lol. Unless I’m misremembering. Doesn’t matter. Better safe than sorry so it’s all good. Edit: Nevermind. My iPad wasn't showing my can't talk to you yet comment so I assumed it had been deleted and was what you were taking about.

Chris Peacock

I'm not waiting for any Kate specific event to happen to defend Kate. I have all I need now. I'm waiting until a certain event yes, but while I won't spoil the show, I will spoil a little on my Kate defense. While my Kate defense is all about Kate. The event I'm waiting for is not. Even if my defense doesn't win anyone over, my timing will make sense when we get there, but to be clear. Nothing that happens in the episode where I finally defend Kate will make any difference to the content of the defense. I know this may not make sense right now. It all will at the time.

Jessica Hartley

I’m glad I’m not the only one creeped out by the quasi-incestous aspect of Angel’s vampire family. A lot of people I’ve talked to don’t see it, but even back in season 2 Angelus and Drucilla oscillated between being lovers and having a father-daughter dynamic *shudder*

Anonymous

That's true. They could easily re-ensoul Darla, but it would make for an underwhelming plot I guess.

Anonymous

Maybe she realized that this was the only time he tried to hurt her and it was to save her life. So she had an epiphany like wow this whole time he could have hurt me but he didn't and when he did it was to save my life. Could be that lol! But yeah I'm not a fan of Kate in general.

Anonymous

I agree. What I meant was, in general I hate female and male characters who are mopey and lovey dovey all the time.

Rey Gallogo

It's all figurative which is why many people probably don't find it creepy. As Kelly Bundy once said, "Oh this isn't my daddy. This is my father." LOL

UTU49

So that's 2 Angel episodes in a row with dynamite endings.

Richard Lucas

Despite the presence of Angelus and Spike, Dru was officially the big bad of season 2 of Buffy. Spike was supposed to die half way through that season, but Joss loved his performance so much that he rewrote the season to keep Spike alive. I think Dru would have gotten more play if Spike had not been saved, but who can argue with that decision as Spike is awesome! By the way, the actress who plays Dru has a documentary out.

Richard Lucas

That would my guess too. Ms Calendar had to special order it, so Angel couldn’t have gotten one instantly. But I do think they are very very rare, but not unique. However it really is for plot reasons of course. It always gets tricky when you introduce an element like that. But of course another factor is that you are watching this show over weeks or a few months rather than years and years, whereas the original audience was expected to probably not remember stuff like that.
