Just James, Patreon member. Mickeys first episode as a companion and how did he do? (Shan this is a question for you) Steven Moffat stated that the working titles for the episode were Madame de Pompadour, Every Tick of My Heart and Reinette and the Lonely Angel. Sophia Myles and David Tennant started dating after working together on this story in 2006. However, their relationship ended in 2007. Sophia didn’t audition for the role she was offered it and worried about getting it right during the read through. The dress Sophia Myles was wearing in the ballroom scene was originally worn by Helen Mirren in The Madness of King George. Not bad for a hand me down. Two days before shooting the crew were told they can’t shoot the epic Moffat penned finale with the hero jumping through the glass on horseback and landing in the 18th century ballroom it was so expensive a logistical nightmare but they managed to pull it off anyway even with DT allergy to horses. It’s Alien meets period drama, I adore this episode it’s the Doctors love story from his point of view everything happens in the space of a few hours for Madame du Pompadour it’s her whole life. 3 roses. Toodle pip. :)

Sophia Myles played a main character in a vampire series called Moonlight. It was pretty good but it only lasted 1 season if you get a chance to watch it

It definitely felt a little bit like an Angel remake; and David Greenwalt was executive producer. I could have sworn at the time there was more overlap with some of the Angel creative team, but I'm not seeing anything in the credits to back that up. But there's definitely some parallels.

I was very similar as a student. I did finish the standard public education in the US and graduated, but there were definitely times I struggled. Shan mentioning being tested and then no follow up reminded me of when I was probably 13, telling the guidance counselor how it felt like I zoned out a lot during class. The counselor just sort of nodded and then nothing came out of that. Around that time they started sending progress reports home with me weekly; but after the get yelled at for my grades the first time, the rest would get stuffed in my locker; and eventually tossed out. And genuinely, no one was the wiser. This was back in the stone age, before email was common. I could never take written notes, because then I'd miss stuff. I can't write and listen at the same time. Which was problematic when a science teacher would require you to turn in your notes as a major part of your grade, which I still think was bullshit. In hindsight, I now know I'm dyslexic. Had to figure that out on my own. I remember being grouped with classmates to read chapters from a book and wondering how they'd finish so fast, and concluded they must have just been skim reading it, so I started doing that. I also suspect I'm probably neurodivergent...

Even if the past was no longer directly connected to the ship, Rose has no way of bringing the Tardis to him, as she has no idea how to fly it. Although, at times one might question if the 𝘋𝘰𝘤𝘵𝘰𝘳 knows how to fly it, but that's neither here nor there...

Ships being named after famous people, especially women, is fairly normal. There was a US Navy cargo ship named after Amelia Earhart for example. This episode always hits for me. It's basically a condensed version of how a companion's life with the Doctor goes, which was probably an intentional choice after the Doctor made such a big point of it the episode before, with Sarah Jane. The Doctor shows up, enamors a person with his whimsy and charm, shows them the secrets of the universe, goes on life threatening adventures and then he just disappears, sometimes to arrive many years later, like with Sarah Jane and sometimes to never appear again in their lifetime. Same with the Doctor's perspective. He finds a connection with a person, occasionally taking them to see the most wonderful things and while his companions age more and more, these adventures are often just a blink in the Doctor's lifetime and next thing he knows, his companion is gone and he has to live on. Really quite a beautiful, if sad, story.

Ships and things get named after historical people all the time; like the USS Susan B. Anthony. Apparently some starship builder or fleet admiral or something was a big fan of ancient Earth French history. Or they really like the Pompadour hairstyle... Basically, the naming of the ship was happenstance, but the clockwork repair droids took it literally and felt they needed the brain of Madame de Pompadour to be the brain of the USS Madame de Pompadour.

Hi Shan, the reason why my comments are long paragraph is because I'm typing them with my tablet, and for some reason it won't let me space here on Patreon. I don't know why it does this but every time I try to, it just posts the comment instead of spacing it, not even my tech savy brother knows why.

One of my favorite episodes I love not only the set design but the whole concept and story of this episode it was interesting and sad and definately a highlight in my top 10 fav Doctor moments

Yeah, I hate the "enter to post" function on Patreon commenting. You can enter a space with "shift+Enter" on a desktop, but I've yet to figure out how to do that on a mobile device, without either copying a space from someone else's post and pasting it; or typing the comment in another app that will let you space it, then pasting the whole thing over. Both of which are too much of a hassle. Though I will do it if I'm typing something out on a mobile device that's starting to get a little long...

This episode has always been one of my favorites. Sophia Myles was great in the episode and she definitely made you care for the character and feel the connection with her and the Doctor, making the ending that much sadder. That letter at the end always gets me, knowing that she waited and hoped to see the Doctor again, to see the stars, only for her to die waiting and never see the Doctor again.

This was the episode where I finally became a fan of the show. I don't remember exactly when, but at some point during this episode I realized I was now enjoying David Tennant & the show in general
