I don't think there was any possibility to not leave Elizabeth behind in this scenario.

There are definitely times where it's just not a reasonable risk to try and go back for someone. It goes a little bit back to the whole noble sacrifice/"You go head, while I keep firing on this Dalek that's definitely not going to be taken out by me an my little gun; and is going to 100% kill me. But while it's busy killing me, it'll buy you time to get away." There comes a point where, as the great stategician Wesley Wyndam-Pryce once said, "If you try not to get anybody killed, you end up getting everybody killed." We probably get a little spoiled and take these moments for granted, because so often someone like Sheppard or O'Neill will shout, "We don't leave our people behind," which of course is the little prayer they say to the writer gods when they want to activate their plot armour, allowing them to defy the insurmountable odds they face and rescue their people, walking away with nary a scratch; when in reality the decision was reckless and everyone should have died. But yeah, every once in a while the odds of success will be so dismal that no amount of plot armor or yelling at Rodney can save them; and even Sheppard has to recognize there's nothing he can do. At least for now. Because when "we don't leave our people behind," fails, nothing invokes the gods of ambiguity like saying, "I haven't given up hope. If there's a chance she's still alive, I'll find her." And of course, if you want it to start raining, you just shout, "Kolya!"

Justice for Dr Weir and the actress that played her. We saved her life in the season 4 premiere only for this to happen in the 2nd episode. I am curious about something you said though. You said you would have preferred if she had just died and I'm wondering why that is? Is it because that would have been a more dramatic ending for her character in your opinion or because being left behind with the replicators was disrespectful towards the character? For me to say whether I like this ending or not will have to depend on if this really is the ending for her. If it is, then it is disappointing. If she somehow survived then I'll reserve my judgement until I see the final fate of her character. While we don't know if Dr Weir survived or not, one thing we can reasonably assume happened to her is that her mind would have been probed for information so I think it is safe to assume the replicators have all her knowledge now sadly. On the bright side, the command instructing the replicators to attack the Wraith has been turned on. Let's see if the Wraith can deal with them. (My bet's on the replicators).
