This unit appears to be in the process of being dumped on eBay UK, possibly from amazon stock that failed to sell or was having reliability issues.

It's a USB powered essential oil atomiser that pulses the oil directly into the air without the usual water mist carrier.

You basically load the oil into a tiny little glass bottle, with a wick that carries the oil to a fairly neat and ferociously driven piezo atomiser disk.

Inside a Phytosun ultrasonic oil atomiser - with schematic

They seem to be dumping these things on eBay at the moment. I wonder if that's due to poor sales or technical issues. During the exploration of the product I found two issues that were not microcontroller friendly. One was a lack of power supply filtering (it literally just needed another resistor and capacitor) and the sharing of a track between a high current switching circuit and the power pin of the microcontroller. Both pose a slight risk of causing processor instability, with the risk of a drive transistor being left powered in the event of a crash. Much of the negative feedback suggested that the users may not have fully understood how to use the units, not helped by the instructions being in French, but with a reasonable image guide too. The circuitry consists of a microcontroller controlling two transistors that push and pull the primary of a small step-up transformer. The output then drives a very neatly designed piezoelectric atomiser with a novel self levelling support system. In use, the unit squirts out two fine jets of oil every 10, 30 or 60 seconds, depending on the setting. The use of atomised essential oil for air sterilisation seems to be a common French thing. I bought an air powered oil nebulizer from a pharmacy while working near Paris. Some people's laptops are gonna get very sticky.

Second thought ... Grenouille (of Perfume fame) would have loved this - for dispersing Essence of Plum Girl.

Mine arrived today. £5 for two,not to be sniffed at.One is working great and the other isn’t ,it is lit up and the piezo appears to move.

I think I know why they're being sold off so cheap. Both of mine have the USB plug upside down relative to being able to fit in a 230v usb wall adapter and have the unit point upwards. If you plug it in it hangs down from the adapter (or straight out horizontally) rather than pointing up. In a car using the 12v USB adapter it wouldn't matter as you can rotate the adapter so the diffuser is upright. I wonder if people were buying them for home use? I had to re-solder the USB plug on one of mine as the cables were trapped in the rotating part of the plug and both had been severed., It's easy to flip the plug around once you've lengthen the cables. It would have also been nice to have a 10 minute setting as even on the longest time of 1 minute intervals it is too overpowering to use in an enclosed space of a car.

Try atomising some isopropanol or vodka from it to see if it gets it going.

These ones seem to fit the right way up in the USB wall socket in the current accommodation. I wonder if there's a standard for USB wall-socket orientation.
