An oddity of this job is that we often have flypasts from military planes.

The first of the twp flypasts on Saturday was the Red Arrows.

The second was two jets, which were deafening.

Well you've certainly got a 'front row' seat up there on the gantry! Not that I'd be happy to be that high up in the wind!

One more flypast scheduled, this coming Friday evening (25th), more "deafening jets" (Typhoons). It seems the perceived volume is most dependent on the orientation of the jet's nozzle toward you - I've had, on a few occasions, a fighter jet circling a couple thousand ft up, 5-10km away, audibly roaring as it moved away and mostly inaudible for the rest of the circle. (Maybe not applicable to trainers, like the Red Arrows, as there's no sense in optimizing them for any kind of forward stealth. But the Typhoon probably still isn't as directional as the circling F-35s out here.)
