This is a posh and very expensive lockable socket with a very novel key operated switch mechanism. I was expecting it to have a cam and microswitch, but it turned out to be a bit more robust than that.

Exploring & picking a lockable socket

This is an MK socket with a key operated switch to allow authorised users to power items. The way they've achieved the key-switch function with standard electrical components is very impressive. But can it be picked? The part number for this MK socket is K2949BSS if you have a use for one. They're quite expensive due to being a specialist component. If you enjoy these videos you can help support the channel with a dollar for coffee, cookies and random gadgets for disassembly at:- https://www.bigclive.com/coffee.htm This also keeps the channel independent of YouTube's algorithm quirks, allowing it to be a bit more dangerous and naughty. #ElectronicsCreators

It does look nicely designed, did it come with tamper-proof screws? Also if I didn't know what was inside, sticking lock picking tools into something beside a 240V socket would go against all of my self-preservation instincts.

I saw one of these for the first time in my life in the waiting room of the doctors the other day, so it's a strange coincidence you've posted this now!
