Definitely lightning. You can power anything. Control the amount of lightning to start small fires. And have the ability to say you can single handedly harness 1.21 Gigawatts! Great Scott!

Fire is something you can actually find a use for day-to-day. You've really gotta search for a reason to use lightning lol

To me ... Lightning might be the purest form of the fire element. So I think they're one in the same.

If I could do half the stuff people can do in anime with lightning (accelerating thought processes, stimulating the muscles, turning into lightning, etc.), then definitely lightning, but if it's literally just shooting lightning, then fire would be much more useful.

There's a character in the 3rd season who's powers I would want. Not saying it, those of you who know know what I mean. That person's abilities I would want.

If i was going strictly off what i know characters can do with both in Avatar, then id go fire. though in Avatar you have to be a fire bender to bend lightning. But, i based my choice on anime and video games in general. Lightning far exceeds fire in terms of practicality, lethality, and cool points under those criteria. Sasuke Uchiha(from Naruto) alone is enough for me to be convinced on picking lightning. If i had a choice based on all 4 elements in the Avatar verse and i had to use them based on the rules of Avatar, id pick Earth Bending so quick. I won't reveal why cause you will find out most of the reason soon, but you would have to watch Korra to understand completely.

Not trying to be rude or anything but I think they explain this later on in the show, so I think you should just let them watch the show, so they can find out this by themselves. :3

i feel like fire is alot more practical than lightning in common use like we have seen powering steam engines or furnaces for machinery

I chose fire because I'm clumsy as hell and if you misdirect fire you might burn someone but if you misdirect lightning people around you could straight up die. (it COULD also happen with fire but with lightning death is a certainty). Ideally I'd want to be an airbender, because I'm in a wheelchair and I'm impatient and lazy so... levitation would make my life A LOT easier. And flight, too. Also because it looks like fun.

I would love to bend lightning over fire. That way I can pretend to be a Sith Lord or Thor. And it would just look cool.
