Also, cutting their hair (or their top-knots ...even though Zuko's wasn't really a top-knot lol) symbolizes severance of their ties with their homeland as well as a renouncement of their title, social status, and pride. That and I also viewed the act as being practical since now they're blending in with their new looks.

I don't agree with you, it depends on the person, there are people who hate Azula and there are people who love her from the very beginning and there are also people who hate her as much as they love her. But that's just my opinion. :)

When I wrote that part of my comment, I meant in terms of her being the new main villain, you're not supposed to like her. But yeah, I do understand what you mean about it depending on the person, because it does :)

Book 2 is my favorite of the series! So many great moments. I'm just happy to be a part of this journey with you all. It's gonna be so good. Also, you're supposed to not like Azula, but by the end you'll have a soft spot for her, swear. She's the perfect level of crazy, you never know what she's gonna do next.

Just to be clear, Azula doesn't solely bend lightning, she also bends fire but her fire is blue and more badass. Also I gotta say, Azula is so dislikable that I actually kind of like her haha

Not 100% on this but I think Samurai who became Ronin would often cut their topknots when they left the clan, I guess it would symbolise severing ties/dishonour :)

While I can see why you said that Azula didn't "earn her power", this episode does give a bit of a look into how much of a perfectionist she is—I think she said something along the lines of "almost perfect isn't good enough" when she was training. To me, that tells me that she is probably a damn hard worker, and probably has other Type-Aish personality traits that got her to where she is now.

its really quick, but Azula does bend fire vs Zuko, but its blue fire(hotter/more awesome). Its very quick, i missed it the first time too. Also, you are not supposed to like her. She is a massive fan favorite though. She is a prodigy due to how good she is at a young age. Not unlike a star athlete in highschool-college. Her being good does not mean she does not work hard. It just means she learned at a fast rate. As we saw with Aang, making a fire in your hand is not difficult, but mastering the different martial art forms and refining the technique is hard. She was upset that she was not perfect when training in this episode, ergo she is a perfectionist. Also, Azula is 14 and Zuko is 16. Aang is 12(112 technically) and Katara is 14 and Sokka is 15. (i think)
