No offesne but Aslouge Death by Largetha was written on the wall a long time ago. And does it matter if she shoots her from the front or behind she was still unarmed. I really dont like Vikings since Ragnar and Rollo were not main characters in it. I dont mind Ivars mothers death because she had it coming. While I get the issue they have I just see Ivar winning as Largetha being dead and at that point whats to look forward to when all season one characters are gone. I guess i see the debate about largetha as being power changes everryone and not for the better

RE: surnames... When vikings or ancient norse use terms like Odinsson, Ragnarsson, Eriksson, Sigurdsson THAT IS the equivalent of what we refer to as surnames... It's a patronymic system very common in ancient cultures and the origin of names like Jackson in modern times... Nicknames were commonly used in replacement for the lastname, although generally weren't used in person but rather when talking about the person, which is why they are generally descriptive or derogatory... Lothbrok(Lodbrok) is a nickname, so is Finehear(Fairhair)... Bjorn is historically known as Bjorn Ironside but still presumed to be a son of Ragnar, while Ubbe is just known as Ubba Ragnarsson.... now Harald Fairhair, let's get deep and confusing, he didn't have a brother named Halfdan, but BOTH his father and his son were named Halfdan the Black, down to the same nickname, which means Harald is Harald Halfdansson and his son is Halfdan Haraldsson, but let's not stop the confusion there, there is also a Halfdan Ragnarsson, another son of Ragnar, Hvitsurk has been suggested to be a nickname of Halfdan Ragnarsson by some scholars, or they're seperate sons, but the show seems to be merging their history and using Hvitsurk as the given name.

Eric is right about the names, viking names didn't work that way and the show has only done it a couple of times. They are all Ragnarsons (and Ragnar was supposedly a Sigurdson according to some of the Sagas), Lothbrok (means shaggy trousers) was a given name like Ironside, snake in the eye or the boneless. The history we have of them is all recorded in British and Frankish records though, so they were mis-recorded historically since a British Monk would just assume the sons of a great leader would share a family name with him. Ivarr "the boneless" Ragnarsson to the vikings was Ivarr Lothbrok to the Saxons. Note that the only one of the Brothers directly referenced as "Ragnarsson" in historical sources is Halfdan, who isn't even in the show (but seems to be merged with Hvitserk). Also show Halfdan is "the black", not finehair. They have made him Haralds brother whereas in the sagas Halfdan the black was Haralds father. Finally Saxon kings are chosen by a council of nobles known as the Witan. The usually went with the male heir of the most powerful family but could pick somebody else if they felt there was a better candidate. Egbert was trying to get round that and start a familial dynasty.

Just look at all the surnames of the Icelandic football team.

Alfred was believed to have crohns disease! There were no natives in Iceland, the vikings were the first to settle iceland.

Did Aslog have it coming?? Not sure yes i didn't like her because She came between Laggy and Ragnar ,but that situation was all Ragnar's doing .When they met he didn't have to cheat. But she was pregnant and had to go to Kattegat. She also said she would take a 2nd wife role.So idk its difficult living with the version of Ragnar shown wasn't easy either since he only used her for children and cheated on her alot. So it was a difficult situation all round She was not a warrior either and Kattegat became a vibrant trading town when she was in charge.

Yep apparently with alot of Gaelic thralls also..So modern Icelanders are a blend of Scandinavians ,Scottish,Irish and Welsh peoples.

Stewiebro

i think the alfred getting sick scene was only part of the extended version, i kinda feel like they should of left that scene out
