Aslaug was ruling Kattegat while Ragnar was away, Bjorn was keeping her in power with his presence and obviously she couldn't go against his wishes, but we never saw him showing any interest in day to day running of the place. Lagertha saying "look what you have done with this place" shows this, and shows that Lagertha is basically reactionary about it, she hates the decadance, foreigness and change and wants things to be back how they were. Could be Kattegat thrived because Aslaug was not taxing them and to pay for things like defence. Could be things like crime and poverty are rife through bad government and we just don't know about it also.

So cool, guys! Loved how you were almost exhausted when the ep ended, it was super emotional, somehow. Everytime someone with only one eye appears, you can be sure that it is Odin :-)

There are two types of Viking fans: those who love Ragnar's story the most, and those who think Ragnar's sons are the most interesting. I have a feeling that Team Blindwave is going to fall in the latter category and truly love the remainder of this season, and season 5.

Nope. That was Odin. He told the sons of Ragnar about his death, showing just how important Ragnar was. Odin himself went to his sons to tell them of his death.

I think if your prophecies can be wrong than you are no prophet. Same things for the details. If you can be wrong there is no reason to believe you are seeing the future rather than guessing.

The girl Rollo raped back in season one was a slave girl, not black smiths daughter. They don't believe in raping free women. Remember Knuk and Lagertha scene, that started it all. Only prisoners and slaves. Not making excuses for them, just saying. This show is complex and people miss a lot of things.

I mean the Valhala thing is pretty wrong

That ending was so epic. I am so happy that it gave you chills! Long live the King Ragnar!

When Ragnar was gone the ruling fell to Aslaug..like when Ragnar went away and Lagartha was ruling however brief it was the season where she lost Ragnar's baby she was in charge. Also i don't know if they were democratic..i think alot of land had chieftain or mainly some kind of monarchy.

RealmOfDawn

Oh this episode made me feel exactly like ya guys!

Sahar

As a Muslim the prayer scene was very emotional.... I was impressed with how they did the set and the respect they showed in the making of it

Phoebe

Well prophecies seem to be glimpses of the future/past interpreted through the mind of the prophet..We cannot escape the bounds of our intellect and mental filtering..Lets say this character was really burdened with visions from the universe about future events..He might not understand all of them, so its an art not a science in my opinion.

Phoebe

I find the guys trying to rationalize Rollo's or the Vikings actions when they rape, steal and murder others...To me the fact is if they can get away it they will do anything..From that poor french family ,the hareem girls , Rollo's behaviour in the first episode. If you have no protection they will do whatever they want to you..without mercy or compassion...Calvin saying if they don't see it as rape when they are abroad is weird ...they knew they just didn't care.

As far as the success of Kattegat goes, I’d say it was more the result of a snowball effect from Ragnar’s reign more than anything. Trade/farming/fishing and whatnot would go on regardless of who’s “in charge”. Ragnar’s success was the initial catalyst that made Kattegat so successful. What it is now is simply from the momentum of his reign. If that makes sense.
