Finally getting into my favourite Tennet series of Doctor Who and we also get to see Catherine Tate show everyone who doubted her as a companion for DW proved wrong with this and the next episode.

Sensing the flow of time is one of the Time Lords' senses, like our sense of sight, touch, smell and hearing. That's the whole reason why he ran from Jack after Rose made him a living fixed point. His time sense was wigging out over it, because there's two types of fixed points: fixed points that *shouldn't* be changed or it will cause a catastrophic unraveling of the Web of Time (see the early run of Eighth Doctor audios from Big Finish), and fixed points that simply *can't* be changed. Rose made Jack's very existence one of the latter, and that's just not supposed to happen to someone.

Oh, and yeah. The Doctor could see that the destruction of Pompeii was a fixed point. He just couldn't see his role in it. It's like our sense of sight lets us see all the blades of grass in a field, but not the fact that one of those blades of grass is a slightly different shade of green than the others. He sees so many moments in time that the tiny details sometimes go by him.

One thing about Doctor Who which goes against their wish of wanting to go certain periods in time and locations is that prior to the Ninth Doctor there exists 33 years of classic episodes with the First - Eighth Doctors and they've been to loads of different locations, so you have to take that into account in that they have to keep the continuity going.

An interesting Tom Baker (4th Doctor) story to watch after this would be 'Face of Evil' because it answers some of what can happen if The Doctor doesn't quite get things right in an evolution of a society. In time travel the consequences of decisions can lead to startling effects.

I'm pretty sure the doctor just know what is fixed and what isn't. The things that are fixed must happen and the thing that are not fixed can happen or can not happen. He doesn't change everything to fix the timeline. He just modify time in places where it is still in flux and not fixed. Jack is a good example because he could just travel around with him and modify his life without problem but than he became a fixed point that timelord shouldn't interfere with.

Donna <3 She's the most fleshed out new!who companion. Her actions are actually one of a real person. The fact that she turned the doctor down the first time after seeing his rage is a realistic reaction. Then, she realized how small and insignificant she was in comparison to all of time. I loved that so much. She goes from a loud arrogant woman to an empathetic savior.
