You guys forgot that someone was following light when missa jumped on him on the street so they knew about missa already. The information was not made clear on the show

Light was recently being followed by Mogi and he kept a track of all the friends he meets. Hence the task force probably investigated all his friends and they found the dna evidence in Misa's house.

Remember they was like "another girl?" when light told her not to come to the . and he said this was the first time I would strike a girl. So he put 2+2 together. Famous model that just popped up and 2nd kira that just popped up.

i took it that L saw her with light before and anyone that hangs with light is a potential suspect.

Yeah like others have said. Someone was following light for a while. Saw he had a girlfriend. Then saw misa hanging with him. L put two and two together. Why would a famous supermodel be his girlfriend? Why was she with him so recently? They probably got dna from her house once she was a suspect. That was that.

I think part of L's reasoning has to be based on instinct. Reading subtle body language and tone of voice (consciously or unconsciously) leading him to hunches/hypotheses which he then tests.

That’s sounds pretty spot on. Many of the assumptions he has about Light are based on how Kira himself would or should act, and that is his downfall. He makes too many assumptions.

I think it’s safe to say that enough people have explained Mogi keeping track of Light and this seeing him with Misa. Having already seen him with Takada at school and then seeing Misa, it would be obvious to be suspicious of her.

On how L knew he might die soon - he knew that Kira and the second Kira had made contact and were potentially working together, and if that was the case then he knew his chances of dying went through the roof if Light is Kira because he would then have the means of killing him since L knows the second Kira only needs a face.

I like to think when they show the colours around the characters as representing Kira vs L, when they don't have it its Light vs Ryusaki.

The L reaction in the rooftops scene is so funny! But that dramatization is so iconic and gives that chilling suspense between the two - I love it. When watching this ep, I was all over the place too. So much happened! Great reaction and discussion! :D

The conversation on this episode is so good, just watching them all speculate, also Calvin and Aaron ^^. Also I figured that the agent L had tracking Light, started tailing Misa too, after he witnessed her with Light in the alley.
