This episode felt like such a change of pace from the others. Still a great episode that dove into the Viking beliefs. Finally you meet King Horik! I loved Donal Logue in Gotham so I was super excited when he showed up in Vikings. Also, her name is Siggy lol

Earl and Jarl are the same thing, a "chieftan" of an area, usually a village and it's surrounding area... It's been suggested that the show uses Jarl for Jarl Borg to distinguish that he is from Gotaland (sweden) while Ragnar is from Norway...

Bah both the previous guys said what I was going to say. Jarl and Earl are the same except Jarl is the Swedish pronounciation and Earl is the Norwegian pronounciation. And Earl Haraldsson's widow is called Siggy. She was Will Schuster's first wife in Glee :)

Think you guys need to realize that Athelstan is still a slave, he doesn't even have a arm-ring. And being sacrificed is TREMENDOUS honor, there's nothing malicious in their intent like it seems you guys think.

"Jarl is the Swedish pronounciation and Earl is the Norwegian pronounciation" i believe this is false?

I know earl is the anglicised version for yarl, not sure why they skip between the two.
