It was in the middle of the fourth day it just clicked for me in the "Hey, I recognize what this is!" way. I even felt a little bit stupid for not noticing earlier, as often is the case once you've deciphered something. All the procedures, rituals, stress, sleep deprivation, replacing all our daily routines, giving us haircuts, replacing clothes with uniforms, even the specific phrases the drill sergeants shouted were all classic NLP. Neuro-linguistic programming, better known as hypnosis. It was a decidedly outdated and inefficient version, to some degree necessitated by the group target, but it was NLP nonetheless. I knew it well, because it had been obsessed with it since fourth grade. I got lucky by having a little bit of talent and a really susceptible class mate that made my first attempt a big success. That gave me the positive reinforcement, an NLP concept in itself, to read every book I could get my hands on on the subject. Of course the military would use that as well. What better way to quickly create good soldiers to build on?

Already the first weekend I started to experiment with my fellow blue-heads. Everyone, me included I must admit, were exhausted and just one "attention" away from full compliance, at least until they recognize who said it. That's enough time to get a slow induction started, and once under, working with them one-on-one, it was easy to put in the basic framework for a different quick induction. Then I could spend some time every other evening or so getting my entire barrack under and working on them. Reinforcing the commands I already put in and adding more things that would benefit me throughout the training and beyond. While in there I also made sure they were excellent soldiers. They would after all be the ones keeping me alive, besides keeping my balls drained.
