Candi Queen Illustration rough draft (Patreon)

My friend Carmico (@carmiico) is coming over this weekend to binge watch Beastars w me (lol), so ofc I got a painting ready to do in the meantime! It's going to be 12x16", which is as big as my Strawberry Garden painting. :o)

I'm hoping to do it all in gouache. I think I'm finally figuring gouache out as a medium - you have to really water it down if you want to have control. Before, I was layering so thick it was hard to get off my brush.

I think what you have to do it paint, dry, layer, paint, dry layer. Plus don't put on your initial colour on too thick or else it'll be too difficult to layer. (For example.. trying to paint over a deep pink with a yellow. The yellow is lighter than the pink so it's going to be difficult if your pink is too thick)
