On this spooktacular edition of Animation Damnation, the guys are talking about the whacky, gross, and still pretty entertaining pilot for the Nickelodeon classic, Aaahh!!! Real Monsters

The first outing for these disgusting, but lovable monsters, entitled "The Switching Hour," originally aired during a spooky block of Nickelodeon programming the night of October 29, 1994, and this ep has it all: monsters wearing high heels, a dripping character that gets eaten like nachos, monsters eating garbage, and a gaggle of disgusting shit-boys trick-or-treating! PLUS: A longer-than-necessary discussion about what some of these monsters would look like as custom-made sex toys!

Loved this toon growing up. Rewatched the entire series not too long ago...it holds up for what it is. Also having Tim curry as a semi-regular is always good.

Interesting you brought up Tim Curry's audition for Batman: The Animated Series because I heard the audio of it and I was pretty disappointed. It felt like he was doing a really bad American accent while sitting on a washing machine. BTW, any chance of an episode of Scooby Doo and Guess Who? Its a cute enough to bypass some bad jokes, but some of the guest stars they book are just some of the worst people (Ricky Gervais, Whoopi Goldberg, Jessica Biel, Sia).

So I had never seen this before, although I was aware of it. I was in college when it came out, so I was not watching as many cartoons ( just the standard Scooby-Doo and BTAS). I really enjoyed it. Definitely gateway horror like Scooby was for me when I was a kid.

Listening to this episode, I was wondering how soon till someone would point out that a certain Mr. Belushi graced the series with his dulcet tones. Steve did not disappoint.
