On our August trip into The Nexus, the gang kicks things off chatting about the TOS episode, "The Omega Glory." Originally airing March 1, 1968, this episode has cavemen hugging the American flag, people turning into piles of salt, Kirk getting in a brutal jailhouse fight, and a beautiful rendition of the Pledge of Allegiance for some reason!

Then over on TNG, it's the bizarre episode, "The Bonding." First hitting the airwaves back on October 21, 1989, this episode has an away team getting blown to bits, a ghostly alien specter pretending to be a dead Starfleet officer, and a guilt-ridden Worf bringing an orphan into his House!

The Nexus is a WHM podcast where the guys futilely go through two Star Trek series at the same time. Thank you so much for continuing to support this weird thing we do—we couldn't do it without you!

Fun fact: the TNG episode was almost vetoed by Roddenberry because he believed that in the future humans would have evolved beyond the need to grieve. He pretty much had to be talked into letting it be filmed. So both episodes have the common theme of Roddenberry having become the show's own worst enemy.

Eric, when are those next episodes of "Hooked On..." coming up, exactly?? 😍

When I was a kid I loved the Omega Glory. Now it’s like Gene Roddenberry working for a script idea that Rod Serling called “too obvious”

Smaug

Steve saying "devo'ed" multiple times in this episode reminded me of "stop trying to make fetch happen"

I naively submitted script suggestions to SNL a long time ago.. they sent them back explaining they can't even look at them otherwise there's a liability issue if you claim you wrote something they used on the shot they might have a similar idea. Emphasis on naive.
