On this edition of our cartoon recap show, we're chatting about a nicely animated, but highly annoying episode of Ultimate Spider-Man!

The episode in question, "Ultimate Deadpool," first aired way back, before Ryan Reynolds took up the live action role, on July 14, 2013 and features successful voice actor, Will Friedle in the titular role of Deadpool. It also features Drake Bell as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, a whole lotta obnoxious SHIELD chatter, Clancy Brown doing an okay-ish Taskmaster, much fourth wall breaking, and wow, a whole lotta fantasy fighting— WOOF! PLUS: Much talk about Thunderbolts & Black Widow!

Thanks so much for being so awesome and supporting We Hate Movies on Patreon! Please be sure to spread the word! Your support is what keeps this operation going! We know you have a number of choices for podz and we appreciate you spending some time with us!

This is the only episode I've watched of this show but I absolutely hated it! I usually like Deadpool as a character, but this version was way too annoying for me.

Chris Dobson

Sorry to be a comic nerd, but Steve confused me by getting his cat ladies mixed up. White Tiger is the character that shows up on the show: Tigra is a completely different character, a regular Avengers member whose last appearance in something the boys might have seen was an appearance in the Chip & Dale movie (to make a Cheetara joke with a Disney-owned character). White Tiger is the character in this show: there's been a bunch of them, but the fourth one was introduced in Avengers Academy and is apparently the one in this episode- Steve was thinking of the second White Tiger, who was on Heroes for Hire with Luke Cage and Iron Fist (and was, weirdly enough, just a tiger made into a person by the villain from GotG 3).

CharlesGrodin'sToupee

This cartoon proves that you can not make PG Deadpool, all you get is a shitty Freakazoid!

Mark Ibarra

It's a testament to Ryan Reynold's abilities as an actor, such as they are, that he can manage to make his Deadpool a palatable protagonist for even ONE SECOND. Friedle is so annoying here.

TJ Guiney

extremely funny how much you guys did NOT want to talk about this episode, lol also: I believe that “healing factor” is, for whatever reason also how Wolverine’s power has been described?

Colin Vitro

You guys really need to do more in the DCAU Superman Batman Beyond Justice League Static Shock JLU

Mark Ibarra

Slightly better than Friedle, but that may just be a writing thing.

Matt Eldritch

Any particular episodes you'd want the guys to talk about? I haven't seen Static Shock in ages but for the other four; STAS - The first Mr. Mxyzptlk episode starring Gilbert Gottfried BB - The emmy award winning "Egg Baby" JL - As much as I would love them to discuss one of the good episodes, I feel like a Wonder Woman one would be good because I personally feel that the show never really understood her character. JLU - "This Little Piggy", a personal favourite of mine

Colin Vitro

I think the problem is there’s too many options to choose from; for STAS I’d choose the episode with Lobo because I think Cabin is a fan(?) for JLU I’d choose Double Date because of Jeffery Combs the Question

Will M

Goddamn this show was obnoxious. This came on about the same time as an actual good Marvel show, Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes and the writing quality between the two was basically night and day

QB

Based on his expectations, If at all possible after viewing the upcoming film I would love to hear a post show “breakdown” from Cabin (et al).

Bryce Zubriski

Man, I really feel bad for the WHM crew on this episode. I tried to watch this episode in anticipation of the podcast and only made it about 5 minutes. I found it insufferable.

Smaug

I went to see Horizon with my friend's dad and he texted me yesterday to ask if I want to see Deadpool. Maybe he saw that cell phone PSA and was like, "what film is this from? I'm intrigued"

Excitemike 64

This is like watching an in-your-face boardwalk t-shirt come to life and I’ve never hated something faster. I guess I should be grateful it doesn’t look like the 2003 MTV series.

wehatemovies

We'll definitely be doing a Deadpool & Wolverine review segment on next week's On-Screen Live! - Andrew

Jamie

Saw the no cellphones bit after a whopping SEVEN trailers before Longlegs.

Rose Esposito

Trailer-avoider crowd, tap in! 🙋🏻‍♀️ if I care about the movie at all, I leave my AirPods in and take my glasses off, heh.

Peter Reynoso

Cock lobster got me. And no one acknowledged it.

Voror

I've heard healing factor used as a term even towards mutants as a description for people like him and Wolverine with that power. I've never seen the term healing mutation used. If you wanted what I'd consider a better animated Deadpool outing, he shows up prominently in Hulk Vs in the Hulk Vs. Wolverine segment voiced by Nolan North.

Tristan

Hulk vs. Or Hulk vs. Wolverine, where Nolan North plays deadpool. That shows you a very charismatic silky voice (Nolan North) helps you sell deadpool's annoyingness.

Paul

Bold prediction: “Deadpool and Wolverine” is a stay-tuned for January. Nuff said.

Mark F

Huge fan of Andrew’s repeated use of “a fridge too far”

Jay Smith

Nolan is the superior Deadpool. He has been the official voice for pretty much all of his video game appearances since Hulk Vs

So you all only like comments that unconditionally agree with you. Why not take your own advice you gave on the latest Gleep Glossary: chill the fuck out. I don’t care if people have problems with Marvel or Disney. It’s the anger without jokes and the glee in movies sucking that bums me out.

Matt Eldritch

It's funny you mention AEMH because the sexual predator who voiced Spider-Man here also voiced him there, replacing Josh Keaton from Spectacular Spider-Man at the last minute. TBF to him though, he gave a pretty good performance in AEMH.

Matt Eldritch

That's fair. TBH I still have a soft spot for John Kassir's Deadpool voice, I played X-Men Legends 2 when I was 13 and it made quite the impact on me.

Swan Benson

Anyone else remember when there was gonna be an animated Deadpool show on FX with Donald Glover producing it?

The Wheel

The weird thing about this show is in the Ultimate Spiderman comics, none of this SHIELD shit happens. He's just a poor teenager from Queens who sells photos to the Daily Bugle in between working on the website. Nick Fury looks out for him because he's you know...a child, but he super doesn't work for SHIELD.

Matt Eldritch

The need to be a comic nerd is a relatable plight. When WHM and God Awful Movies covered Black Adam, it really bugged me when both podcasts lacked the familiarity that I had with some of the characters.

The Wheel

Also in Ultimate X men Deadpool is a violent anti mutant racist who tries to murder the X-Men(and Spiderman), for a reality tv show.

Swan Benson

Also a show you should check out is "Spectacular Spider-Man" . Only 2 seasons but very good in my opinion.

AlsoNamedB0rt

You can probably make it up in your head. “Deadpool is bad because it wasn’t made 30 years ago. I hate when movies deviate from the comics unless I decide that I hate it when they don’t deviate from the comics. Deadpool and Marvel’s existence somehow prevents me from enjoying the plethora of other great films produced every year by other studios, so many in fact that I have not and probably will never be able to watch them all. I like when popular things aren’t good, because it validates my feelings of intellectual superiority and it makes other people feel bad. Also I have uncontrollable and inexplicable fits about things that aren’t new or unique, like Deadpool talking to the camera.

Tyler the Destroyer

Time for my age Will Friedle, unfortunately I never saw Boy Meet‘s world And everything else just falls to the waste side When it comes to his performance says Ron stoppable from the show Kim possible Which is so similar to Deadpool I literally would not have felt weirded out if he pulled his mask off and showed it was Ron lol Seriously guys, watch 30 seconds on YouTube of Ron Stoppable and you will know what I mean

Dan Craftwerk

The Wackness! Hell yeah, Cabin always has that hiphop knowledge

Dan sulin

I watched a lot of this show with my older son when he was younger and it wasn’t the worst. You guys didn’t touch on it but it was clearly a “let’s sell kids toys” cartoon first and foremost with Spider-Man having a whole cast of friends he hung out with at shield including a teenage Power Man and Nova. One weird artifact of this show is when Disney tries to jump on the whole Skylander craze of Toys that you scanned into games, This was the version of Spider-Man they used.

Ross Tyrie

I like this show. However, you WHM boys might want to take a look at the episode you mentioned with Wolverine. It's all sorts of wrong. Wolverine and Spiderman swap bodies and Wolverine starts sniffing around the underage MJ. Classic "what are we watching!?"

Timujin

They also don’t mention mutants because Deadpool isn’t a mutant that’s a creation of the movies. He got his healing factor in an experiment using Wolverines he didn’t naturally have it.
