WOW this video was a lot of work to make. I underestimated this one on so many levels, it's just crazy. I seriously thought this video would be a piece of cake to make 😅

Out of all the videos I've produced, the earliest that is most similar to this one is probably this one from 2015. It even has some live action stuff too! I still remember filming that intro scene. It took a dozen takes to get the lighting right.

It took about 2 weeks to produce this video and I feel like I made a ton of mistakes along the way. Tons of lessons learned too, especially around munging the data together to look right in graphics for the video.

The automation I wrote for the tests is kinda crappy and I'm going to rewrite it with Salt for the next video. There was also so much manual "find-and-replace" for the results tables and graphs that it made my head spin.

Phoronix Test Suite is a really solid tool but it let's the distros report their own data and each reports things differently so when you compare distros, you end up with tables of just... basically nonsense.

I'm considering getting a mini-pc specifically for benchmarking, preferably a similar spec'd AMD to compete with Terryza every now and then.

Despite being an absolute bear, this video was really fun to make and I hope you guys are excited for a lot more like it!

Terryza on the Bench! 4-Way Linux Distro Shootout | Intel Celeron N3350 4gb LDDR3

Let's look at Xubuntu, Fedora, openSUSE, and EndeavourOS and see how they run on the low-spec Terryza machine! 0:00 Introducing Terryza 2:42 Test Methodology 3:27 Basic System Test 3:57 GPU Performance Test 5:04 File Compression Test 5:45 Compilation Speed Tests 6:33 Media Encoding Tests 6:52 Game Benchmark Tests 7:48 Egee's Observations 10:19 Credits & Outro This video was way more time consuming and challenging than I ever expected. I put together a giant test suite over a weekend without considering how long it would take Terryza to actually run the tests, let alone each test 3 to 5 times! The distros for the test were chosen before I really knew what this video would be about. In retrospect, I really should have used the Xfce respin of Fedora because including Gnome among the Xfce distros unintentionally skewed the results. I had to update the test result tables to fix names and versions because each distro can report its own name and hardware differently. I tried to update the data to match where possible so that the tables and graphs work well overlayed in the video. That's why openSUSE shows "Tumbleweed" instead of the snapshot number which was: "Snapshot20210401" I tried to write the script for this video from a neutral perspective so that folks watching don't get the impression that Fedora is the "slow" distro because it fairly poorly on these tests. I want this video (and others like it) to be entertaining and informative but not authoritative. Mini PC sounds like a good idea
