The original Rocks n Diamonds review was the third video I made for the channel and the first Open Source game I had ever reviewed. It's what gave me the idea of doing reviews for OSS games in general.

At the time, all of the Linux Gaming channels were covering new releases and I thought people would enjoy seeing a review on an older & OSS game.

I wanted to make my reviews a bit different and mention how I found the game and what language it was written in. It's Open Source, after all!

It's funny - I made the original before I knew what to do with the channel; it was even still called Ethereal Gaming at the time! But I think the quality and direction of the original review is better than many (most?) of my later videos.

I feel like my voice over sounds very natural and genuine. I'm not speaking quickly or making a bunch of stupid jump cuts. I'm just talking...

...Which is kind of what my delivery style is today, 6 years later.

Remaking this video reminded me of why I got into YouTube in the first place and how excited I was when people watched my videos.

I'm working on a Distro Delves series retrospective where I'll talk more about my thoughts in detail. But yeah - remaking this classic video was a very cathartic experience for me 😔
