Thanks for the series. Glad they worked out well. I wasn't going to start mine until you at least said they were decent. I will start mine this weekend. I love the idea of the home theater. What could I get to power three sets of them?

Anonymous

Would paint these speaker enclosures before you install the drivers and crossovers? I have friend who owns a body shot with a high end paint booth . What type of paint would look and work the best on MDF?

Anonymous

Anyone found a Euro distributor yet? I can't find any.

Sounds like a great summer project. I read one review on Amazon where a guy put a different crossover resistor (swapped 1.5 for 3 ohm) for the tweeter in order to tame it a little. I need to find that review again. The kit looks like it comes with vinyl in black. Is that true? Any reason why you didn't use them?

Anonymous

Modifying the crossover is DIY. The foam hides that pretty tweeter.

Anyone noticed the Amazon title saying these are "Near Field"? Zeos, they aren't, correct?

Anonymous

use a wood primer then you could use whatever paint you like.

ZeosPantera

Hrm.. 4Ω makes them rather demanding. Maybe get away with 2 of them. More than that you might want to look at a separates setup from Emotiva.

ZeosPantera

Just because I can't stand black vinyl speakers anymore. Especially if they fake the wood grain.

ZeosPantera

Unsoldering the Crossover to fix it feels like a WHOLE lot more work . If I knew (like everyone here) going in that a resistor swap would quell it then I would have no issue.

ZeosPantera

I MEAN anything CAN be near field. I didn't even bother testing them there because of the size.

What kind of wattage am I going to want for these? Is the Onkyo A-9010 0r its 77 watt big brother going to be enough?

Anonymous

What madoka magica song was that?

Anonymous

i fucked up.. i just finished building the cabinets and realized that I flipped the back panel upside down on one of the speakers :( should i still continue working on these or abandon hope ? know any supplier willing to sell just the panels ?

ZeosPantera

So the wire mount? Why not just continue. Shouldn't affect the finished product. And it will serve as a reminder of your first time.

I was just worried the main woofer, crossover and port are crammed in a small space behind one another

Anonymous

just got my set any idea where to get a new resistor for the crossover? Also, any good recs for dac/amps to power these bad boys w/ a sub out?

I have put a question on the Ohm speakers but wanted to ask you about building speakers. You have dabbled in both and I am considering this as an option. Do you feel one can build a speaker that can rival Speaker Companies, like Focal, Ohm, Swan, Klipsch for the same price point or less?

Anonymous

That makes sense, I like the challenge and the rewards to build but then again, as you have stated companies have engineers, to build the best sounding speakers for the least amount of money depending on the market they are targeting. A great example is the work of Andrew Jones with all the companies hes has done great work for. Then again cost is also a huge consideration. If I were to find I spent time and money to build a speaker that can rival a Focal as per sound quality for a third the cost it would be worth my time to pursue this. But then again to buy a pair of Ohms which I most likely couldn't replicate the driver technology the cost is justified.

ZeosPantera

With Ohms you can't really build them. Not accurately. But most kits have those same engineers behind them you are just removing the heavy labor step and assembling the calculated box and crossover together.

Just finished mine with the resistor changes. A beautiful kit minus the incorrectly displayed instructions in the manual
