What noise are you talking about Zeos?

You're making me regret my Emotiva A-5175 + PSA MT-210 + 2x MT-110 (mostly for music and some TV - not for movies). I mean, with the efficiency of the PSAs, it's more than enough lovely A/B amping to make ones' ears bleed.. but what if I want to use less efficient speakers some day? aaaaah. Great review; thanks! I was reminded that I probably want an A500 for my upcoming outdoor sub needs.

ZeosPantera

Also just be careful with the A500 for a sub if it is 4Ω and you have only one and want to monoblock. 8-6Ω is all I would push the A500 for longevity.

Love the way you customized the Crowns to your liking! Just a little correction on the new Emotiva amps. They are class H just like their past XPR amps it just now uses a switch mode power supply rather than the traditional linear power supply with a large bank of capacitors and transformer. This is to help with shipping weight mostly but the old XPR amps weighed a ton and had a lot of shipping damages. I don't think it is selling nearly as well for them due to alot of audio purist who prefer the classic linear power supply.

ZeosPantera

Well purists can have their heavy amps. I love the way these sound. And being so light is an added bonus.

I think the Crown amps are the best value in amps today. The power, flexibility and light weight make them very easy to use in a

I meant to finish saying in a lot of different setups. Now for pure sound quality I still prefer class A/B but it is impossible to get the kind of power and flexibility you have now for anywhere near the price you paid for the. For the needs you have you made a great purchase and your mod turned out awesome. I might try something similar but use analog vu meters and a drive board like you made for your desk set up.

Good afternoon Zeos. Big Question for you. I noticed you went pro-audio type amplification for your home vs "Audiophile" amplifier routes. I have thought about doing the same for my HT system verse purchasing a multi-channel amp like an Emotiva or those built by Outlaw Audio or any other in that price point. I would think the pro-audio amps would be as good sounding as "audiophile" amplifiers. Your thoughts on this? FYI should be getting the new Ohm 3000 soon they are supposed to ship this week. Thanks for all you do.

ZeosPantera

I think once you get high enough quality Pro-amps you can't tell a difference. These units can perform as well as any audiophile amp especially when you don't push them near their limits.

Good morning Zeos. I would have to agree with you. I was doing some more YouTube research on other reviewers like yourself on the same subject and they all said the same thing. Most nuances are so subtle the expense to make them isn't really practical and overly costly. I think it is more of a marketing ploy for the consumer market and much is also the physical aesthetics and having "Consumer Brand Named Components like McIntosh etc. Great job again! I am going to do like you and order a pair. Do you get a commission if I get them off your link? I bet they work amazing with the Ohms or any other speakers as well. I am still toying with a center channel with the Ohms, I think you answered this before that you don't use a center channel when you are watching movies with the Ohms correct?

ZeosPantera

Yes the links should grant me a percentage with anything you purchase after the click. Within 24 hours or per session. I don't use a center channel usually because nothing can keep up with my mains. BUT I did break in my re-drivered Buchardt S300 as a center and it was the best I'd ever heard. But with Ohm's that is not really needed.

Anonymous

Cool on the Buchardt's. I think I am going to stay with a center channel mainly because of the coding in movies and how my AVR processor works, though it could phantom image a center via the Ohms I think for movies keep it in the loop. Question, So you like the match up of the Buchardt's for center with the Ohms? I don't think I am a fan of their center/surrounds though I am sure they work fine I think they are over kill and or not really needed and don't see a benefit of "Omni" directional for center mixed dialog or for rear/side/height surrounds. Do you think you will use a mono-block for the Buchardt S3000 center?

ZeosPantera

I was actually using the Buchardt S400 as the left and right with the S300 as the center. I do not recommend the OHM mini-center or surrounds. You don't need its benefits for that role. I have no intention of keeping a center in use.

One last thing on the 2502. There is no venting on the top of this amp correct? The reason I ask is I am going to probably place these amps like you did on your subs but not a fan of metal rack equipment sitting out alone for display. I understand what you did to make them appealing for you to look at. But for me I would like them in a nice decorative case. I can build one out of hardwood, or veneer plywood or auto painted MDF. The rack rails would behind a piece of front wood trim attached to the sides of the case so they don't look like rack gear. The amp would have to be loaded via the rear of the rack. One would need a very long screw driver or driver extension if using a power driver or drill. I presume the fans only kick in when they are really cranked but with that much headroom one probably isn't going to tax the power draw of speakers as you mentioned in your video. Great review as usual you really don't miss much a per questions one would have on these.

ZeosPantera

Yeah they are designed to be surrounded on all sides with other equipment. So a case around them would be fine. I have never had them even turn on the fans. Which is remarkable.

Anonymous

Oh so you use a different speaker setup for HT use is that correct?

Anonymous

It is funny to chat with retailers of Home Amps like Arcam, McIntosh and others in that price point and tell me those amps sound so much better. I beg to differ. They look nice and I am sure perform well but at 10 times the cost I am not interested.

Anonymous

Good morning Zeos I got my pair of XLS 2502 and you were spot on. My Arcam internal class G 100W amps sounded good but I do feel these are a huge improvement! Loving them. Still waiting on the Ohm 3000 and how they work with them.
