Ld mk3. I like mullard tubes over voshkod. Warmer. I've never pushed mine beyond 1:00 with hd650 and k712. Bought the Little bear today for fun. I'm going to put the Muses02 op amp in it. It'll push 600 ohms with that chip. Thanks! Ps. It's my Bday! I'm getting old.

I have a choc instant breakfast and a banana every morning. Chocolate milk is a good drug of choice.

Anonymous

That little bears ti op amp chip is warm sounding.

Don't you find that the tubes make the 650s and 712s too polite in the treble? Or do you have a configuration that keeps the sparkle in these two headphones?

Anonymous

Hi! The LD has plenty of treble. Also, my M560 planar sounds good on it. Its a good pre for my Yamaha monitors speakers. Hope your doing well!

Anonymous

I just ordered the little bear. I'm going to change the opamp chip to a muses02, and it will push 600ohm phones. I've read that the muse is very musical. I doubt the tubes are doing much in this amp. Also, the vu meter has a variable button on the bottom.

Thanks for the info! yah, I love putting my th-x00s on tube amps as I find them slightly too bright on SS occasionally. I imagine the 560s benefit the same way. even though the 600s and 650s are often recommended for tubes, and it does create a nice helping of tube soup in the sound, it just rolls off the treble in those phones too much for me to enjoy. Same with the 712s.

If you like tubes, I've heard good things about the La Figero 339, which just so happens to be on massdrop right now. https://www.massdrop.com/buy/la-figaro-339-tube-headphone-amplifier they call it an "upgraded darkvoice".

How does the little bear p2 compare to the bravo audio V2? I plan to buy a cheap "fake tube" amp to see if tube is for me.

Anonymous

A little known company in my home town (Kochi, Kerala) makes wooden tube amps too. They are very expensive for my taste : http://www.analogaudiolabs.com/

ZeosPantera

Do the little bear over the Bravo. Its just doing more with more power somehow

ZeosPantera

YEAH.. Add some Nesquick powder to make it a bit more chocolate. I might do that right now.

fyi, the wa-7 fireflies is not as tubalicious as the WA-3 or WA-6. It seems the the more expensive the Woo amps get, the less tubonkulars they become. That said, the fireflies amp is certainly worth reviewing, I love it, but don't expect mega tubieness.

Got a P2 for $56.95 on eBay! Will have to do some mods.

Anonymous

Also, on the Tor web site the amp is pictured with a pair of HD 600s.

Anonymous

I just got mine, and it sounds pretty good for $60. The muses2 opamp is highly praised. I think I'll try it. Have fun!

Anonymous

Can you let us know how the opamp does once you test drive it?

Anonymous

I got a black P2 and it is coming from China, so it will be awhile before I receive the amp, but once I get mine I plan on rolling some tubes and changing the OP Amp. So for now I am going to do some research on the latter, purchase a few and take it from there. Right now I am enjoying my DarkVoice with my HD 600s!!!!

The TA-01 that frequents Massdrop is great and I have the bigger brother TA-10 https://i.imgur.com/kTXrPqf.jpgwith a Sylvania tube it shakes my Argons at about 82%. Running a variety of NOS tubes. NOS Mullards are nice but, Sylvania is my fave tube at the moment. 20:35 This is why I sold my solid states the tubes can add width, imaging etc. and you can change it on the fly depending on your mood. You can get cheap Mullards if you get re-branded like IEC or Hammond from Great Britain. I have heard Cifte are supposed to be holographic but over $100 each. Brimar and Amperex are another good one to get. I might have a unhealthy tube addiction. https://i.imgur.com/jwTeK5B.jpg BTW these reviews are interesting, nice work Zeos. I wonder could you put a Burson opamp in that small amp?

ZeosPantera

At some point yes. They have not contacted me about samples so i need to kick the door down.

Anonymous

Do it! Of course, I am interested in your honest opinion even if it means you destroy them, but, questionable build aside, I've been having so much fun with them. They are complemented well by the Brainwavz sheepskins.

Good review I was running a modfidelity Bluetooth into the little bear then two mono emo xpa100 then into sonus faber concerto domus.. Wow it rocked so alive beats my cxa 5100 music wise music was just real.. Now i have to look into the vu version... That Tor stuff does look awesome

Anonymous

Well it is a little bit like two darkvoices, it appears to be a dual mono setup in one box (separate volume control for each channel, etc)

Anonymous

I got mine finally in the mail today. I’ve ordered some OP Amps from China, should get them sometime in July. I did order and receives some Philips tubes, that I will try out after I burn in the original tubes. So far in the short time I listened to the amp hooked up straight to my iPad, sounds good!

Dude down the street at robotunderground says he will build me up a sundown in a seald box about 4 cu/ft painted and finished with speakon wired up for 400.i just would need the amp he said inuk1000 would be enough. What do you think about that? This guy builds the subs from the basket up he must have had 10000 baskets, magnets, and voice coils in the warehouse. Like American pickers audio style awesome. I think he just does it for the love of audio. Keep up the killer reviews BP

ZeosPantera

For that cost you should go for it. Even if you don't like it you can probably sell it for that same price used.
