I have been recently contacted by the original SUPIR developers that they published SUPIR online with better features and they are generated funds from this service to develop SUPIR v2 and SUPIR video.

As you know, SUPIR is the best image upscaler available right now both commercially and open source. It is next level compared to all other upscalers. So I decided to prepare this tutorial video and post to help SUPIR developers.

How to Register and Use SUPIR Online

Local SUPIR APP

  • Still who wants to use SUPIR locally we have amazing tutorial and local installer scripts with very advanced gradio APP that has so many new self developed features. You can watch our SUPIR tutorial below :

Original Test Images

  • So the interface of SUPIR online on SupPixel AI is so clean and easy to use. But the settings matter. When you hover your mouse to question mark icons it will show you what each setting does.

  • But don't worry, for a anime / cgi like image and a real image I have tested all configurations.

  • The test images are as below

Full Resolution Original Quality All Experiments

Removing Backgrounds

ImgSli Comparison

  • Russell Crowe imgsli : https://imgsli.com/Mjg3NzQ0

  • Creature imgsli : https://imgsli.com/Mjg3NzQ2

  • For creature, I first upscaled 3x and then used that 3x upscaled image as base since it was originally very small resolution.

  • Pay attention to the image names to see which settings were exactly used.

  • The speed of the service is decent and SUPIR team told me they will keep upgrading it and adding new features.

Used Prompts

  • Prompts matter when using SUPIR since it is a diffusion based AI upscaler.

  • For generating prompts I have used Claude-3.5-Sonnet. You can use it for free on Poe : https://poe.com/Claude-3.5-Sonnet

  • Upload the image and ask the AI like : caption this image in details for a text to image model

Prompt of Russell Crowe image as below

  • A Roman gladiator stands defiantly in an arena, arms outstretched and shouting with intense emotion. He wears a leather chest plate with straps, arm guards, and a tattered blue-grey tunic. In his right hand, he grips a short sword. The gladiator's face is contorted in a passionate yell, his short dark hair and beard visible. The background shows stone walls of what appears to be a colosseum or amphitheater. Bright sunlight casts strong shadows, emphasizing the dramatic pose and the textures of his costume. The image captures a moment of raw power and determination, evoking the intensity of ancient Roman gladiatorial combat.

Prompt of creature image as below

  • A colossal, muscular dragon-like creature crouches in a defensive posture. Its body is predominantly dark blue-gray with a metallic sheen, resembling armored scales. The beast's form is bulky and powerful, with rippling muscles visible beneath its tough hide.

  • Its head is adorned with an impressive crown of sharp, black spikes that extend down its neck and back. The creature's face features glowing blue eyes and a slightly opened mouth revealing razor-sharp teeth.

  • Teal-colored accents highlight various parts of its body, including its claws, some of the spines along its back, and subtle markings on its face and limbs. These teal elements provide a striking contrast against the darker body.

So they are planning get a v2 to close it and commercialize it? Or just to get funds and release open too?

I updated to the latest windows offline version 49 today and it is absolutely the best upscaler I've used. In my experience upscalers remove skin detail and make look too smooth and airbrushed. The latest v49 models actually recover realistic skin tones. Simply amazing!
