Hey patrons,

A little update from us. Today we’re going to make our Patreon pledge number private, and wanted to explain why we’re doing that.

We’ve kept it public since we launched because we always wanted to be transparent about how RKG is directly supported by you. It’s something we’re very proud of but recently we feel it’s become a distraction for some, which has affected us, and in some other ways, affected our business.

We’re writing this directly to you, our patrons. Your support allows the three of us to do this full-time and the creative freedom to make what we want how we want. But obviously some people misinterpret that number – they don’t realise we have to pay rent, corporation tax, utilities, and a host of other costs. We realise that the people reading this will get it, but sadly elsewhere we know that it has generated negative conversations around what we’re doing and what we should be making, which – to be honest – has affected us.

We have always focussed on quality. It would be very easy for us to produce more videos with less effort, but we’ve always believed in making the best possible videos. We make shows that have real production and proper editing. We believe it’s why those series are watched over and over. We don’t want to just churn stuff out – content for content’s sake – as the quality would inevitably suffer.

Also, we’ve recently had to work with some external companies and freelancers for some upcoming projects, and similarly, we feel they’ve also seen that number, misinterpret that as 100% profit, and have as a consequence inflated the quotes we’ve been given. As such, it’s becoming a bit of a disadvantage for us business-wise.

For both of those reasons, we’re going to make it private from today. We hope you can understand why we’re doing this.

Thank you, as always, and we can’t wait to share Retry: Chalice Dungeons with you on July 23rd.

RKG x

Completely understandable guys. Shame that people can get so shitty about things like that. Personally, it was incredible to see that the community’s collective Patreon support had grown so big and was so proud, myself, to be contributing to you guys being able to deliver consistently amazing content. Do what’s best for your business at the end of the day. We’ll all still be here cheering you on 💪
