Hello fellow translators,

This month marks the first Translator++ edition to support RenPy.

Changelog Ver 2.8.28  :

  • KAGParser updated to ver 0.3
  • Fix : KAG :faulty when parsing nested tags
  • Fix : KAG :properly escape iscript & ignore tags
  • Added support for RenPy games

 Warning! What follows is my personal rants and does not represent the truth, or the majority of the opinion whatsoever. You can skip it completely if you want. 

Translator Version 2.8.28 is the first version that will support the Renpy game.

Parsing python scripts and RenPy scenario files is much easier than KAG, but not without challenges at all. I still have to deal with the thing I hate the most in the programming world… which is Regular Expressions. And actually I'm not a fan of Python either (and any programming language that is bound to off-side rule) so I had to stomach these things throughout the plugin making process. Can you imagine the ordeal I’ve experienced?… but fortunately I survived.

But still, the experience of making RenPy parsers wasn't as “adventurous” as making parsers for KAG. 

If you remember again, mankind was introduced to KAG for the first time in 1998. Can you imagine the form of a visual novel in that year? When compared to other engines, KAG has developed very little since then…. However, there are still many developers who adamant on using this engine. The idea of this engine is: inventing the tag command (which heavily resembles HTML Code) with the hope of simplifying the scenario writing process… which ultimately complicates scenario writing even more. But hey, even with this very limited engine they can produce a high quality marketable visual novel…. Well that’s Japan for you… when they do their things, they do it thoroughly.

Can Translator++ translate the visual novel Japan game?

Depend on the engine. If it is KAG it can. You can also use Translator++ to translate LiveMaker engine via CSV file.

I can't inject/apply Ren'py game, after pressing inject/apply the processing window pops up and the program closes.

Hi there. First of all thanks for the great tool :) Secondly I was wondering whether there was a way to add deepl as a translation option as nowadays it seems to do a better job at translating Japanese to English. Is there a way to add it myself or is it a planned addon in the future?

Hi, I have a problem to apply translation... What folders shoud i select to make it worrk?

Hi, Do we need to overwrite the existing game folder after the translation is complete? After pressing the play button it does not react at all. When I look at the folder where the translation output is located, the game's exe file is not clicked and the outputs appear blank.

No, you don't overwrite your original game materials with the translations. I recommend you to create another folder. If you choose blank folder in the injection process, Translator++ will generate a fully working game on that folder. If the previous translation exist on that folder, Translator++ will overwrite it with the latest translation build.
