CHAPTER 10

-

"... Mr. Pegasus... I didn't consent to this."

Ken facepalmed as he witnessed a crew of Industrial Illusions workers installed the pod in his guest room. Without permission beforehand.

After announcing that he would stream the game upon launch, which is currently set to launch in 30 minutes, Ken was excused from school to quickly head back home for the stream, not before getting his homework though.

Pegasus, who had an amused face, laughed.

"Ohohoho, think of it as a perk, Yusou-boyya! Besides, each pod costs over 150,000 Yen, not including installation fees, of course! You're basically getting products worth 200,000 Yen for free!"

He then gives Ken a card. Taking a good look at it, it looked like a card membership for a gym. It looked really cool, with Blue Eyes and Dark Magician clashing against each other with their beam attacks.

"This right here, is a limited edition Virtual Nexus key card! Only 100 of them exists in this world, ohoho!

Players must require a key card in order to play Virtual Nexus, we don't want people ruining casual and ranked experience with smurf accounts now, would we?"

That is actually a good idea to reduce the rates of top ranked players to bully low ranked players.

"How about if you lose your card?"

"Of course, sometimes it happens, that's why we have a restoration system that will then lock out the lost card!"

Interesting, they really thought this out.

"Boss, the installation is done."

A worker announced as Pegasus thanked them all for their work before looking at Ken.

"So, any questions or requests?"

Ken took a second to think about it before asking.

"The in-game store allows you to customize your avatar and Duel Disk, right? Along with card sleeves and deck boxes."

He read about the details of the game in the limousine beforehand.

To be frank, this game was mostly focused on duels. Each time you duel, you'll get currency called Battle Points, which can be used to buy items in the in-game store along with some other things.

You can also earn Battle Points through a multitude of ways. Microtransactions, specifically.

That's what he was hoping to ask Pegasus for. He didn't want the whole world to stare at his face.

"Ah, you want Battle Points to customize your avatar. Very well then!"

Pegasus knew instantly, as he immediately called someone using his phone. After a few words, he ended the call and snapped his fingers.

"Your account now has a total of 500,000 BP, which should be enough to buy all you need, Yusou-boyya."

... With one call?

"Money gets you everywhere, Yusou-boyya, even in video games! Ohohoho!"

Quickly glancing at his watch, he quickly instructed Ken to enter the Nexus as they had 20 minutes to quickly get ready before the servers get launched to the public.

-

Blinking, Yusou gets his bearings as he recalled the familiar sight. He was in the same void that he was in before dueling Yugi.

So he had another chance to make a username?

He had a very good username. Since he didn't want people to bug him anymore in public because of his fame, he entered the best name that he thought was good.

=x=x=x=x=x=x=

Enter Username: RED_HAT

=x=x=x=x=x=x=

Yep, he's going to be the Red Hat from the Tag Force games or the Vagabond in Duel Links. He always thought that they were cool, silent but deadly.

SERVER LIST:

[Domino 1 (5 ms)]

=x=x=x=x=x=x=

Curious, he opened the server menu to gawk at the amount of servers that the game offered.

Each region had 5 to 10 servers, making it so that the ping for every player is ensured to be as low as possible. That meant electricity costs and what not for servers.

... Kaiba is such a weirdo.

Tapping on the desired server, a shine of light illuminates the void as he entered the Nexus.

The first thing that he did was to move his body to make sure that the scan was complete. Looking around, he could see that he was in Domino's Main Hall, which seemed to be the starting spawn area for everyone.

He was quite surprised that his feedback was accepted, the UIs were much larger and more satisfying to look at, not to mention the interface was very interactive.

After checking everything and making sure all the measurements were perfect, he opened the cosmetic store.

"... That's a lot of items."

There were countless amounts of clothing, from casual t-shirts and shorts to formal blazers and slacks. The amount of clothes was staggering, almost reaching 300,000, and that was just the clothes section.

Not only that, you could customize your own clothing with the built-in clothes design, so you could always look unique, though that costed about 50% more than the specific rank's clothes.

A little curious, he decided to see how much a BP cost to only gape at the price. It was 1 US dollar per BP, that meant Pegasus transferred 5000 dollars worth of BP into this account.

...

He was honestly expecting this, at this point in time.

Scratching his head, he immediately went to find some clothes that mostly were red and cool looking, like a jacket when his eyes came across a simple red jacket with black accents and a hood.

=x=x=x=x=x=x=

Normal Red Jacket (Customizable)

Rarity: UR

Price: 100 BP

And since it was customizable, he could add the Industrial Illusions logo at the back (It was in his contract), so he bought it immediately.

The moment he confirmed his purchase, the red jacket materialized from thin air and appeared before him. He quickly grabbed hold of it before it dropped to the floor and nodded in satisfaction.

The game had an auto adjustment feature for clothes, meaning each person could fit in any clothing perfectly.

Putting it on, he could feel himself becoming more cool and stylish, doing some quick poses with the built-in mirror function before testing out the hood, which manages to hide his hair perfectly.

He then searched for a t-shirt to wear underneath his coat. Scrolling through the shop, he realized after feeling the coat that material texture was a thing in the game. Thank goodness his coat was comfy, or else he would have refunded it.

He decided to just make his other clothes custom to maximize comfort. Finding the custom tab, he opened it before quickly creating clothes and accessories, referencing the clothes in the in-game store but with comfortable textures.

Once he did everything, he wore his newly made clothes with an equip button, his clothes materializing instantly.

Moving around, he was satisfied with the comfort of the clothes, along with a gray t-shirt, blue jeans, hiking boots and black fingerless gloves.

Seeing that he still had so much BP left, he searches through the store since he just needed a hat before finding a red hat. Buying it, he stylishly flips it onto his head before he looked in the mirror.

=x=x=x=x=x=x=

Red Baseball Cap

Adjusting it, he then opened the card customization page before buying red sleeves since it fitted the theme of red.

While scrolling through the customization, he was impressed at the ability to customize your Duel Disk, but refrained from doing so, since he liked the Battle City version of the Duel Disk more.

It was his childhood.

Once he was done customizing everything, he messaged Pegasus through the chat function (As always, Pegasus already added him) as instructed while walking out of the Domino Main Hall.

=x=x=x=x=x=x=

[CHAT]

Toon_Maker: Red Hat? Very interesting choice, Yusou-boyya!

=x=x=x=x=x=x=

[CHAT]

RED_HAT: Fame is a double-edged sword, Mr. Pegasus.

=x=x=x=x=x=x=

[CHAT]

Toon_Maker: Fair enough. Now, the official launch is in 2 minutes. If you'd tap on your Duel Disk and press on Content, there's a [STREAM] button available. You can choose to stream in a First-Person POV or in Third-Person POV.

Toon_Maker: People can watch a Duelist stream using the built-in platform that allows one to watch Nexus streams.

=x=x=x=x=x=x=

[CHAT]

RED_HAT: And what do I do while streaming?

=x=x=x=x=x=x=

[CHAT]

Toon_Maker: Whatever you want!

Toon_Maker: As long as you entertain the stream, by dueling, interacting, deck building, whatever that promotes the game!

=x=x=x=x=x=x=

[CHAT]

RED_HAT: Got it.

=x=x=x=x=x=x=

[CHAT]

Toon_Maker: Perfect! I shall tune into your stream later, I am a busy businessman after all. Good luck!

=x=x=x=x=x=x=

And he's offline now.

Well, now he needed to think about the type of content that he wanted to push out.

...

Well, it was obvious.

Rank dueling. He's addicted to competitive games for a simple reason.

He was going to aim for number 1. It's that simple.

Pressing on the [Stream] tab, he selects 3rd POV and played with the settings a little. It was basically Twitch from his past life, but instead of setting moderators to manage his streaming chat box, there's a built-in AI to do the job for him. Very convenient.

With nothing else to do, he tapped onto [Ranked Duel] on his Duel Disk menu before he gets transported to a white marble hall with a flash.
