CHAPTER 13

-

"Jeff, give me an explanation about the stats."

John asked his system, Jeff, to explain as they (John and the cat) walked into the woods near Greengrass Manor.

"Meow..."

The cat voiced its interest in her own status that the system gave. Seems like they both had questions.

Staring at the explanation, John hums before asking another question, ignoring the cat who was sitting on his head.

"And what about the grades? Is there some sort of reference or something?"

Grade Level: S > A > B > C > D > E > F

F = Preschool Level Wizard

That prompted a whistle from John as he read the information before him.

"That's pretty impressive, cat — I just can't keep calling you "cat", can I?"

He asked the cat on his head who responded with a "Duh" expression that it sent to him using their bond.

"Hmmm... I'll be honest, cat. I'm horrible at names."

Jeff was an example of his horrid naming sense. Jeff.

"What do you propose?"

He waited for the cat to respond before facepalming.

"Right, you can't talk..."

The cat meowed as if it was sighing before patted his head.

"Jeff, any recommendations?"

Searching...

Searching...

Based on the system's archives, the cat resembles 87% of a certain mascot from the Persona 5 series, Morgana.

"Morgana, huh? How about it? It does match since Morgana's a dark witch in Britain history, and your skills are all darkness skills."

He asked the cat, to which she meows happily, satisfied with her name.

"Oh, it's added. That's sweet."

Looking at her skills, he asked about Morgana's passive.

Cloak of Darkness: A passive that enables the user to hide in the shadows.

"Morgana, can you try this?"

He points at the menu as Morgana gave a nod before walking to his shadow. Suddenly, she sinks into the shadow before completely disappearing.

"Damn, that's cool..."

Watching her emerge back from his shadow, they started to go through her move list.

[Shadow Claw], [Shadow Ball], and [Shadow Beam] were pretty explanatory, but [Shadow Sneak] and [Shadow Burst] were quite interesting.

First, [Shadow Sneak]. She runs towards something, surrounding herself with darkness energy and blending into the surrounding shadow before using [Shadow Claw] to start damaging the target from within the shadows.

Second, [Shadow Burst]. It was close-range AOE move, Morgana covers herself with dense shadow energy before letting it burst around her in a 2-meter radius sphere.

After experimenting with all her moves, her MP was at 52, she was visually tired from exhaustion. Deciding that it was more than enough, John picks her up before placing her on his head, patting her fur gently.

"Sorry for making you do all this, girl."

She meowed softly, as if to wave it off, before closing her eyes, sleeping from Mana Deficit. Walking carefully to not wake her up, his mind starts to brainstorm strategies to use Morgana in his line of work, thinking that she was the best Familiar to get in terms of stats and move list.

Wearing an uncomfortable dress robes, he pulls on the collar as he walked into the ballroom of the Greengrass Manor. Today was Daphne's fourth birthday on the 21 of October, and Jacob definitely did not go easy on the celebration.

The ballroom was filled with beautiful decoration, from floating shiny chandeliers holding onto candles to the gold decorative, made out of some percentage of actual gold.

And he invited a lot of people from middle-class nobles to the more prominent nobles. Especially the high-class nobles. That was why Jacob hired John, since most of the nobles in Britain were ex-Death Eaters. He was tasked to make sure that nothing goes to flames.

"Here."

He gave Celine a nicely wrapped present, the size of a pendant box.

"Oh, thank you very much, John. Daphne will be pleased."

She said with a knowing smile, causing John to sigh in annoyance.

"I'm not going to sign that marriage contract, Celine. I want her to choose it herself when she's older."

"Oh, I know. If that's what our savior wishes, then what can I do?"

She said teasingly with a fan covering her bottom half of her face before placing his present on a table filled with presents. Looking at the big presents and better looking ones, his paled in comparison.

Walking away and awkwardly standing near the juice stand, he drinks while watching everything in his surroundings, not once dropping his guard as he ease drops the nobles talking.

Meanwhile, Morgana in his shadows, was asking for food to eat.

[Meow]

"Not now, Morgana. Later. And didn't I just feed you an hour ago? You'll get fat if you eat too much..."

[Meow!]

She shouted in the connection, her emotions boiling as he talked about her weight.

"What? I'm speaking the truth."

Morgana's breed does not gain much weight as they convert the fat and carbohydrates into pure magical energy.

"Huh, good to know. And Jeff, you're talking a lot these days."

And that was shocking since Jeff doesn't usually talk at all until a few weeks ago when he met Morgana.

The system has received Update 1.1 upon the bonding of the host and the host's Familiar, which enables the system to converse with the host more often and answer more questions.

"Nice, at least I now have two people to talk to in jobs — "

THUD! SPILL!

As he was walking away from the juice stand to grab some food, suddenly as he was reading the system's message, he bumped into someone, causing the juice in his hands to spill on the person's robes.

"Shit, I'm really sorry — "

John's eyes widened a little upon realizing how he bumped into. Tall, and thin, the witch he bumped into was bony and wore a hat with a stuffed vulture on it, along with carrying a bright red purse.

This woman was one of the major wizards on the guest list that Jacob showed him, Augusta Longbottom.

"Language, young man."

She said with a glare before taking out her wand from her purse. With a whisk of her wand, the purple grape juice stain disappeared as she returns her wand into her purse.

"Now, may I know the name of the young man in front of me?"

Blinking in shock at the Longbottom, he quickly replied without fear.

"John, ma'am. Just John."

Her eyebrows raised slightly in interest before nodding, stalking away like a ghost. He swore that she muttered something along the lines of "Interesting...", but that may have just been his imagination.

Well, that was quite a scary interaction. Thank goodness she didn't blast him with her Banishing Hex that, from the rumors, hit Voldemort right in the face and even made him recoil in pain.

Eyeing on the main group of nobles, he quickly took note of the nobles who were talking to the major Death Eater supporters like Malfoy and the Carrows with Jeff's handy notepad function from the recent update.

He would check their backgrounds one by one after this event. For now though, he should try and avoid going to the children's area.
