Chapter 262: A heavy hand

The countless strings that formed the bars of the birdcage were torn apart by sheer power.

Something that its creator had believed to be impossible.

“Wow!, that's so cool!.” Luffy was watching with excitement.

“Hey Traffy, didn't you say that cage was impossible to break?”

Law looked offended at the question.

“Of course!, I was talking about normal means!” He pointed at the giant water construct in the distance.

“How could I have predicted something that happening?”

Doflamingo was not listening to them. Instead, he was staring at the figure of Vivi with a mixture of shock and rage.

“How is she doing this?, and where are those Admirals?!"

After tearing open the cage, the water construct proceeds to remove it completely and toss it away.

The citizens of Dressrosa cried with joy after seeing this. With the cage gone, their loved ones had recovered their senses and people had stopped fighting against each other.

"We are free!"

"We can finally leave now!"

But their celebrations were cut short.

A massive hand made of water was approaching the city.

The water figure of Vivi had no legs, as it had only created the upper part of her human body.

Only her torso was coming out from the ocean, so her only way to reach the city was to lean forward and use one hand as support.

This was a good thing for the inhabitants of the island. Had she created a complete body and attempted to step on the island itself, this one would have sunk under the massive weight.

However, a single one of her hands being placed over the city was enough to crush an entire neighborhood.

People ran away in terror. It had become. obvious that this water giant had not destroyed the cage for their sake but because she wanted to enter the city and Doflamingos birdcage was in her way.

With her left hand well secured on the ground, the giant leaned forward and stretched her right hand until it hovered above the castle.

Luffy, Law, and Doflamingo did not have a chance to even start their fight before they were interrupted. Their attention was now focused on that hand.

"What is she doing?" Wondered Luffy.

"Oi Vivi!, this Mingo guy is mine, I want to be the one that kicks his a-"

Luffy's eyes became sharp and he moved his head to one, just in time to avoid an ice spear that had embedded right behind him.

"What the hell?!"

"Buffy!, be careful. I don't think she is capable of thinking clearly right now," warned Law.

A series of dangerous-looking weapons made of ice came out of the giant hand and descended upon the group.

Luffy had to grab Law and move him out of the path of several blades.

The fingers of the hand started to diminish in size as more weapons were created and thrown at the group.

Doflamingo was having no trouble avoiding the attacks but he had no way to fight back unless he was able to find her real body. Sending his strings at the water hand would be a pointless effort.

"Show yourself already! Or did you really lose your mind after awakening?!"

"Awakening? What's that?" Asked Luffy.

"When a devil fruit user masters their abilities, they have a chance to awaken the true potential of their fruit. A paramecia user can only change their own body but an awakened one can affect its surroundings…" Explained Law.

"What kind of fruit does Vivi possess?"

"Mmm…I know she said it was a zoan type but I don't remember the name." Said Luffy.

"This is a zoan?...a mythical then. But a zoan type would make sense. There is a saying that zoan users have two minds, the human and the beast. And if they lose control or are not strong enough, their beast side can take over."

"So, this beast side is now controlling Vivi?" Asked Luffy.

Law noded.

"Something like that, but her fruit is not an animal type so I don't know what kind of being is in control of her abilities now. This effect is also exacerbated during an awakening if the user is not yet ready…"

Luffy dodged a few more spears.

"So, how do we wake her up? Should I go up there and punch her or something?"

The law considered it for a moment.

"This just seems like a construction made of water, the head is not necessarily where her mind is. The real 'her' could be anywhere….huh? it stopped…"

After the fingers were completely consumed. The hand stopped throwing weapons.

"Ha!, that thing must have realized it was useless against me." Doflamingo grinned.

"Why don't you go away now, I want to kill those two first, I'll deal with you afterward!"

The ice weapons that were scattered all over the garden, had started to move.

They then turned back into water and flew towards the center, where they formed a big sphere.

"What is she doing now?" Asked Luffy, but neither Law nor Doflamingo could answer the question as they didn't know either.

The sphere of water floated in the air and divided itself into five smaller spheres.

This one's then formed into five humanoid figures.

The constructs were made of water, with golem-like features, and stood around 3 meters (10ft) tall.

Three of them immediately ran to Doflamingo while the other two went for Luffy.
