Chapter 208: The island's past

"So…" Started Usopp.

"To sum it up, that head with legs over there" He pointed.

"Is the samurai from Wano. The emergency signal that was aimed at the "Boss" was actually aimed at this Brownbeard."

Usopp pointed at the tied up, half man half crocodile.

"It was sent by his underlings, who were under attack by the samurai." Usopp looked at the head.

"And the samurai slashing those centaurs is what started this whole mess." Vivi(Nami) pointed out.

"I'm trying to find my lost son, Momonosuke, and I will cut down anyone who gets in the way." Warned the samurai.

"And look at how many children they had locked up in that facility. He is probably hidden somewhere in that place."

"Yes, this isn't everyone." One of the kids said.

"I don't remember the names of the new kids yet, but…"

"And what happened after the signal was sent?" Asked Zoro.

"It was that man!. That Trafalgar Law, they also called him Shichibukai or something like that. He is the one that defeated me and left me in this deplorable state…" Exclaimed the samurai.

"Big hat guy? He is a shichibukai too? We saw him before coming here." Commented Luffy.

"I read about it in the newspaper. He became a shichibukai six months ago or so." Said Robin.

"You had an encounter with him? Did you fight him?" Asked Chooper(Sanji).

"He did not seem interested in fighting us. He looked to be injured. " Said Zoro.

"He probably fought those marines." Added Tashigi(Vivi)

"Is weird when you say 'those marines' with that body…" Sanji(Franky) pointed out.

"So, is he an enemy or not?" Asked Usopp.

"You don't want to get mixed up with a shichibukai!" Warned Buggy.

"We already fought three of them thought. " Tashigi(Vivi) commented.

"Luffy, didn't he say something to you before leaving? I couldn't hear what he said though." Asked Usop.

"Oh I almost forgot! Before leaving, he told me that he wanted to speak with me later. That he will come to find us later." Luffy said.

"How can you forget things so quickly!" Asmonished Vivi(Nami) before smacking Luffy on the head like she usually does.

This one was taken by surprise and his head smashed against the ground with tremendous force, shaking the ground and creating a small crater.

"Luffy!" 

"Captain!"

They all cried in alarm.

When the dust settled, they saw Luffy trying to stand up with blood pouring from his head.

Nami(Chooper) arrived quickly at his side and started to administer first aid to their Captain.

"Ugg…that hurt." Complained Luffy.

Vivi(Nami) stood in shock, looking at her fist.

"Did I do that?"

"Nami! You have to be more careful. That body has a lot more strength than it appears, and you have no idea how to control it." Tashigi(Vivi) scolded the navigator.

"Yeah, be careful girl. If you hit one of us like that,  we could die." Said Buggy.

"Good thing I didn't ask you to show me your panties,  that could have killed me!." Commented Brook.

Vivi(Nami) lowered her head in regret.

"Sorry…I didn't mean to hurt you that badly."

"I'm fine…" Luffy stood up with some difficulty. 

"Am I the only one who finds this strangely arousing?, maybe I have a thing for powerful women." Chopper(Sanji) made a lewd face.

Robin looked at him with disgust.

"Don't make those faces as Chopper, is very creepy. In fact is better if you stop talking altogether while in that body.

"Are we going to stay here much longer?"

"Yeah, we wanna go home!" 

The children started to complain.

"You must return those children to the Master!" The tied-up pirate shouted.

"Right…why did they have these kids locked up in there again?" Asked Usopp.

"They are sick, the great kind Master is trying to heal them!. You should not have taken them away from the lab." Brownbeard explained.

"But I just want to go home."

"I don't feel sick at all!"

"I wanna see my mommy!"

The children exclaimed.

"They don't want to go back. And how can we even be sure that this Master of yours is trying to help them?" Asked Sanji(Franky).

"You pirates of the 'worst generation' are always making a mess of things!. Is because one of you that I ended up here!"  The man said.

"Who?" Asked Usopp.

"It was a man called Basil Hawkings."

"That was one of the notorious pirates we saw back in Shabondy, two years ago." Said Robin.

"But he has nothing to with us!" Exclaimed Usopp.

"Hmph!, you are all the same anyways…because of him I lost my legs, my crew was annihilated and we ran for our lives. Eventually, we ended up in this place.  Do you guys even know anything about this island?. This land used to be green and filled with life…"

"This place?, Come on now…" Zoro looked skeptical. 

"But is true.  This used to be a research facility run by the world government's most notorious scientist, Doctor Vegapunk. They used to do all sorts of experiments to develop weapons and drugs. Some prisoners were taken here instead of Impel Down, and then they were used them as guinea pigs for their experiments."

"What!?, thats insane. The WG used people for experiments?." Shouted Nami(Chopper)

"Vegapunk was here?" Muttered Sanji(Franky), more interested in that piece of information instead.

The former pirate continued.

"Then, 4 years ago, one of the biological weapons they were creating…failed catastrophically, and two of the three laboratories were blown away. 

Those ruins are all that remains of them."

He pointed in the distance at the many remains or buildings scattered around the area. 

"The explosion also created a massive cloud of poisonous gas that killed all life on the island. It left the place completely inhabitable and barren. After that,  the governed went away and locked the island down, leaving all the prisoners here to rot…those bastards!"

"They left them all here?" Asked Usopp, feeling a bit sorry for them.
