Chapter 178: Eruption

Early into their fourth day, the warning signal sounded, bringing the entire crew to the deck.

Franky got down from the lookout post to inform them.

“I have spotted a thick cloud of smoke ahead and the temperature is rising very fast.”

They looked ahead, but the visibility was still almost zero, safe for the little light that came from the lion’s eyes.

“This is very bad!.” Nami started to sweat.

The smoke had reached the ship and they were all able to see it now.

“Why is there smoke at the bottom of the sea?” Asked Usopp.

“It smells horrible!” Complained Buggy.

“It wasn't me!” Exclaimed Luffy.

“This is sulfur…oh…” Robin realized.

“Hydrothermal mineral deposits!. We are in an active volcanic area!” Shouted Nami.

“If those things erupt, we are going to get cooked.” Vivi pointed out.

“Hey, what's that!” Chopper pointed somewhere below them.

“There is something really shiny down there!, could it be Fishman Island?”

“It can't be, we should still have a few thousand miles to get there.” Said the navigator.

“That light is getting closer.” Sanji pointed out.

“And it's alive to…” Said Vivi.

All of a sudden, a gigantic creature appeared from below them with its mouth open, it had an antenna on its head and the tip was the shinny light they had been seeing.

“It's an anglerfish! we have been deceived!” Exclaimed Usopp.

“We are going to die!” Cried Buggy.

When it was about to bite their ship it, the fish stopped and looked behind him, looking very scared.

“Nkoro!, what have I told you?!” A deep voice traveled underwater and reached them.

The human face of a bearded man appeared behind the anglerfish, this one was at least four times bigger than the colossal fish, making the Sunny look tiny in comparison to them.

“What is that?!, a human?” Said Franky.

“A humanoid sea monster!” Exclaimed Usopp.

“What a weird-looking guy!” Said Luffy.

“Oh no!, I think is a homeless person!.” Cried Vivi. “Does someone have change?”

“That's an Umibozu I believe…” Robin decided to add, giving Vivi a weird look.

The giant man proceeds to punch the fish on the head.

“Oi, what did I tell you about eating ships?!. Captain Vander Decken will be mad at us.”

“He saved us?” Asked Nami, looking unsure if they could trust this giant creature.

“Let's get out of here!, they are both monsters.” Said Usopp.

“I agree!, get us out of here already!.” Shouted Buggy.

“Dead men tell no tales and have no wants…” A voice started to sing.

“Vander Decken in a dark land where not even cows fly…”

“Where is that song coming from? I think I have heard it before.” Wondered Brook.

A giant ship with broken sails filled with holes made its way toward them while their song continued.

“Dead men's fingers need no jewels, and the darkness hides our regrets…”

“Search, search, the sunken treasure is mine…”

“I am the richest man in the world…”

“Captain Vander Decken IX!”

The crew was startled by the sight.

“It can't be!...” Cried Usopp.

“Even at the bottom of the sea?...” Asked Nami.

“A ghost ship?!” Shouted Brook in horror.

“Why are you, of all people, getting scared for?” Asked Vivi to the skeleton.

“Look at the name on the sails!” Pointed Sanji. “Is the Flying Dutchman!”

“I knew that song sounded familiar!” Said Brook.

“That ship should be just a legend from centuries ago!. It said that one night during a stormy night, the deranged Captain killed all his crew members one by one in order to keep the treasure they had just plundered, he even spat on God himself. The Captain's name was Vander Decken and the ship was the Flying Dutchman. Since he incurred God’s wrath, he and his ship were cursed to wander the seas aimlessly for all eternity.”

“What is a legendary ship like that doing in a place like this?” Asked Zoro.

“Nkoro, Wadatsumi…” A deep voice came from the ship. 

The giant man and the fish turned their full attention to the man speaking.

“You can't get a ship’s treasure if you eat it…now, knock it down!”

“Alright!” The giant said. He lifted its fist and prepared to bring it down on them.

“Is going to destroy the Sunny!” Exclaimed Nami.

“Gomu Gomu no…” Luffy prepared to stop the attack.

“Model…huh?” Vivi was about to create a weapon when she saw the Kraken move.

“Bam!” It used one of its remaining tentacles to attack the Umibozu and pushed him away from them.

“Yeah!” Cheered Luffy. “You show him Octi!”

The match became fairly even between the two monsters and they didn't know who could come on top.

Then, everything started to shake and the current started to change.

“It's happening!” Nami cried in alarm. “The volcano is going to erupt!”

"Captain, tell the octopus to come back, he needs to push us away from here before we get roasted." Cried Vivi.

"Octi, come back!" Shouted Luffy.

"Nkoro, Wadatsumi, come back and pull the ship! " The deep voice came from the Flying Dutchman.

The giants stopped their fight immediately and went to follow their orders.

The Kraken took hold of the Sunny and started to push it as fast as he could while the temperature was rising.
