So we now have a dedicated visual novel slot due to their continued popularity. Having spent all this time covering Adastra, Echo, and its sequel Arches, the future has been pretty certain for this timeslot. But now that we've finished Arches, we're a bit rudderless at the moment (aside from 'Flynn, when it's ready').

So let's do a vote! Haven't had one of those for a bit, since New Vegas is so long.

We have a rule about only playing visual novels that are finished, but 'finished' is admittedly open to interpretation a bit. Below are two finished visual novels, and two less-than-finished games with their reasoning for being included detailed below. VOTE!

These would be played with Toaster. Stephanie and I are still meeting up to record the Flynn route of Echo whenever our schedules align.

GLORY HOUNDS

Glory Hounds is an episodic queer superhero story that currently has two chapters released. So it's not over, BUT, each chapter is meant to be more of a standalone story arc, which would make this game truly episodic, unlike most "episodic" games released in the past. It's almost been three months since the last episode, so Part 3 very well might release while we're covering it. If we start this game, we'll probably come back to newly released chapters between other VN playthroughs.

"Alex de Rooij, your regular everyday dalmatian working a dead end job, has his boring life suddenly upended when he discovers his boss's secret identity as the masked vigilante known as the Dawn Hound. Thrust into a new position as his sidekick, he soon finds it comes with some rather unusual workplace hazards - from invisible fashionistas to fish mobsters from the depths of the local canals. As threats continue to mount, Alex will have to step up to the plate to fight for the fate of his hometown - as well as decide his own."

(we would probably just start over)

NEKOJISHI

Andrew played this game, but all I really know about it is that one of the cats has Gambit vibes. Somewhat famous/infamous as a furry VN that was completed years before Echo or Adastra.

"Born into a religious family, Lin Tian-Liao left his hometown and moved to Taipei to study and follow his dreams, trying to escape the pressures of returning to his family’s temple in the process. His ordinary college life seemed to be going well until suddenly one day his third eye was opened. Liao, now able to see the various spirits and gods in the world, has to deal with his new found powers, his school life, and three particular cats who all want to have a say in his life and his future."

SHELTER

Shelter is not complete, but I had a great time during our Let's Try. Apparently two of the routes are complete? So we could experience those two stories to their end, but the rest would have to wait. For months? Years?

"It's a furry visual novel about a bunch of those medieval fantasy dogs and a human who made their home at a mysterious, gigantic metal structure filled with futuristic technology in the middle of fantasy Siberia. The game takes place during the preparations for their version of fireworks night, by using a life-force fueled turret of mass destruction. I swear it makes sense in context!"

(we would just continue, the Let's Try becoming part 1)

PASSWORD

I know basically nothing about Password, but it gets recommended A LOT, and is complete.

"You are Dave, a hyena who just finished his final year of schooling along with a few of his friends. What better way to end the school year than to spend it at an all expenses paid stay at a luxury mansion for a whole month? After all, after this month, everyone's going to be moving away to focus on their chosen paths in life, so this is the last time that everyone's going to be together for a long way.

Will romance flourish in the time spent isolated in a mansion, living the high life? Or is this all an elaborate ploy by someone pulling the strings at the mansion itself that just sees the group as a bunch of playthings for something much more sinister? Expect a story full of questions and mysteries as the friends suffer through tragedy, death, and a looming threat that grows ever closer all while trying to remember the nicer times in their lives before everything may come to an abrupt end.

Characters will die, decisions must be made, and shying away from the consequences of such will only make the journey forward harder. Can you change their fate by using the mysterious vault that seemingly wants a password to open? Is this your one salvation to save everyone?"
