HEY STUDENT DISEMBODY: PATREON EDITION!! ;)

You guys I am SO FUCKING EXCITED about this. Also, since you're my patrons, you get to know how FUCKING TERRIFIED i am about this!! If I hit the goal, I get to take Slasher U and Tenth Circle (my one man game studio) rolling to the point where I can do this FOREVER. Er, conceivably. As long as people keep playing Acts 2 & 3 and wanting more Tenth Circle games and enjoy the reactive dating sim engine i made. Ahem. PLEASE SATAN PLEASE LET THIS HAPPEN

Some of you know this, but I went to game design college for undergrad and dropped out due to being ABSOLUTELY RACKED with C-PTSD that I stopped taking my meds for (why andi??? why???). Luckily, I landed on my feet with a full-time design job at Nix Hydra right away, but I got laid off after the project end (oh game dev) and ended up going into comics.

The first game I ever worked on was when I was 12, and it was a Harry Potter MUD (don't laugh. ok. you can laugh) and I learned C, C++, MUD scripting, and good impartial environment writing from it. I learned to never tell the player how to feel, but to build a vibe so they can have feelings about it themselves.

When I was 15, I saw a copy of fucking PC GAMER in an airport with the Vault Boy on it. I have no idea what compelled me to do this, since I didn't have a console, was NOT a gamer in any form, but that fucking Vault Boy changed my life. I had never seen anything like it, and after buying it and thumbing through it the entire flight, I knew everything about Fallout 3 from back to front, and could not WAIT for this thing to come out. I didn't know video games could be LIKE this. I'd never played an RPG before, and, if you know me, WOW WOW WOW do I have a soft spot for the apocalypse and UPA style. The level design in Fallout changed my life. I saw the plunger room of death (google it) and I literally knew I should be a game designer. For the rest of my life.

So I hustled. Ladies and germs YOU WOULD NOT BELIEVE HOW HARD I HUSTLED. I started making GDDs and blind emailing game devs in my area (Vegas). I got my school principal to introduce me to someone's dad (that someone ended up being my fucking high school boyfriend/sweetheart Tony??? Hi Tony?????) who happened to be LOUIS FUCKING CASTLE. He showed me how to write GDDs, how he started Westwood, how he broke into the industry, and got me my first ever job interview with Mike Legg, who owned Petroglyph Games. That summer, at 16, I got my first full-time job (summer only though!) as a Production Assistant for Petroglyph, doing QA, light narrative work, and, most fun, recording OOF lines for Mytheon. RIP Mytheon, you would've been the sickest MMO EVER. (Fun Fact: TOMMY TALLARICO WAS MENTIONED CONSTANTLY AT THIS TIME in-studio)

16 turned into 17 and I kept working QA, becoming a QA analyst the next summer at Instant Action testing a Guitar Hero controller API and scripting new guitar levels. I'd applied for the fucking gold standard of game design schools, USC School of Cinematic Arts, the #1 game design program in the world, and I threw FUCKING EVERYTHING at the wall. I was a real burnout with a 2.7 GPA in high school, but I had been making games MY ENTIRE LIFE. I studied my ass off and learned the industry and learned pipelines and, most importantly, learned how to CREATE GAMES AND ENGENDER PLAY rather than be stuck in game theory mode. I wrote an 80-page GDD for a steampunk rpg mmo (I.... I know.), a fuckton of essays, and had some killer letters of rec from Louis, Mike, and my high school theatre teacher, and.....

I GOT IN.

I FUCKING GOT IN.

I GOT TO GO TO THE BEST GAME DESIGN SCHOOL IN THE WORLD.

And then I dropped out due to being crazy but THOSE THREE YEARS WERE THE COOLEST AND MOST PRECIOUS PART OF MY EDUCATION. I wouldn't know how to produce games, MAKE them, avoid feature creep, or run a production pipeline or QA triage without my work in the industry, but USC? That made me a GOOD GAME DESIGNER. Er, at least I hope I'm a good game designer. I think I am, anyway. ;)

Anyway, I've had a lot of time to marinate on what I wanted to do for my blowout "first" solo game. By the time I was done, Slasher U Act 1 Alpha was sitting in my hands like a tree stump I'd conjured out of thin air. If I hadn't spent the last 19 years of my life doing this, it would never have happened.

On April 27th, I uploaded Slasher U Act 1 Alpha to itch, and got my first ever review - five stars - from a member of the student disembody (hi fanbase I LOVE YOU SO MUCH I'M GOING TO CRY) on the first day. My life - and Tate's, Hex's, Laila's, Sawyer's, and Juno's - have never been the same since, and I NEVER WANNA GO BACK.

Thank you SO MUCH FOR COMING ON THIS JOURNEY WITH ME, STUDENT DISEMBODY. I love you guys SO MUCH. 😭😭😭😭😭
