Thanks for the reaction! Just to help a bit, Ty Lee aka circus girl was definitely forced. It only took one time for the circus to go up in flames to show Azula's power/ terror/manipulation skills. I think it was meant to also show that circus girl is a nice girl that got worried for her fellow circus crew maybe even animals and didn't want the show to get ruined a second time or worse probably killed in some freak "accident" caused by Azula. Remember it says she knows her from back in the day so she definitely knows what Azula is capable and how dark she is. Also she always sounds super perked up but maybe it's also a defense tactic to not let Azula see her "weakness" or fear. She can't admit she cares for something or else she can use it even more against her to manipulate. Anyway this was long bye 💜

Was just coming to the comment section to say the same thing. Ty Lee is one of Azula's best 'friends' so she knows how far Azula is willing to go to get what she wants. She also knows Azula won't feel any remorse if there was an 'accident' with Ty Lee and the circus.

for azula her fire is blue is to show how powerful she is. since the hotter fire is blue and this is to show how much chakras shes unlocked.

Lizzy's Mom

Azula definitely made it clear to someone who knows how ruthless she is that she was more than willing to burn down everything (pun intended) to get her way. She probably has never been told no by anyone but her father, if even him. She has Mean Girl written all over her.

when I watched this episode I still wonder why mai seemed not to care about her brother, unless she thought that they wouldn’t harm him? but still how does she know if they wouldn’t? I dont like her character at all she’s so selfish

2023-07-01 19:08:10 that is so true! her unexpressive character is so funny but that one moment has been irking me since foreverr. like finally someone mentions this. IT'S HER BROTHER! how is an 112-year-old man more important than him? Azula didn't even say anything even mildly convincing.

I think that's part of her character development. As mentioned in a later episode, she wasn't really close to her parents as they molded her into a docile and quiet daughter. It's not that weird that she doesn't feel any affection for her brother, let alone that her brother has a huge age gap with her. From her POV, here comes Azula as her friend, and more importantly, the princess, ordered her to kinda put aside her brother, someone who she doesn't really care about, then she might as well do it.

the blue fire is kind of a mix with lightning though. we saw in EP 2X1 that she was bending lightning

*SPOILER ALERT* I recon it was said later on that she had a complex 'cause her parents always wanted a son and didn't really care about a daughter who can't do anything else than get married (that's how nobleman are thinking). So it would make sense that she didn't have any affection for her brother who was a living proof that she's useless and unwanted. She could even come to hate him as the result. But I also see here the same thing Azula did to Ty Lee - both of them were scared of Azula and didn't want to disobey her. Mai could think Azula is testing her somehow in that situation. As a third thing, I think Mai was also very confident about her (and her friends) fighting skills and fully believed she could save Tom-Tom easily.
