Loved the reaction! This is one of my all time favorite shows. I don't remember if it's expressly stated, but the avatar can sort of partner/connect with spirits if need be. Just for clarification, he didn't connect with the moon spirit, which was the fish that was dead. He connected with the ocean spirit, which was the one that was still alive. That's why the "monster" was made of water and only used water to attack. So he sort of amplified what the ocean spirit could already do.

To answer your questions about the 'fish monster' ;) The Ocean and the Moon spirit left the spirit world to basically chill together. The other fish in the pond was the Ocean spirit. When the moon spirit died the Ocean spirit fused with the avatar to do some revenging on the fire nation for messing with his moon buddy. That's why all the Water Tribe were bowing as the monster went by. They weren't bowing to Aang. They were bowing to the Ocean spirit possessing him. (It's also why after dropping Aang off the spirit took down the admiral since he killed the moon spirit.)

I have a Black Belt in Taekwondo, and I am definitely not called a Master. I'm just 1st degree and there are nine in total. It was enough for me to be able to teach classes and be shown the respect of the Black Belt rank, but I( was definitely not at Master level et. My teacher was called a Master, which is at 4th degree or higher, I believe. A Grand Master is just 9th degree. So, Katarra could definitely be a "Black Belt" of some level and be able to successfully teach others but maybe not enough to be called a Master yet. That was a good analogy. I never thought of that.

I would love to see them reacting to One Punch Man! ☺️ I think they would love it since it's like a satire about american heroes comics/series. I loved the heroes+anime merge in this one. Also new series like Jujutsu Kaisen or Kimetsu no Yaiba would be fun. But I guess if you're not an anime fun you could miss a lot of jokes and cultural references...
