Okay, guys. I just want to clear something up.

I understand how much Black Velvet is loved. That means so much to me! I love writing the characters of Jameson, and Oliver and Tobias’ love story, but I also don’t want this book to feel like it’s dragging on and on, with everyone losing interest as the clock ticks by…

Due to Black Velvet not really having a HUGE conflict in this rewrite (this is what I wanted. But, understandably, this also means there’s no angst-filled conflict resolution. It’s about a boy who loves his neighbor, who is overcoming his trauma and falling in love with him too. It’s a quiet love story. It’s simple.)

This go-around has been a slice of life story, character-centric, and most importantly, a story about healing. In this version, Tobias is finding the courage to leave the toxicity of Jameson, the strength to understand he doesn’t need to heal his broken family or “rescue” his mother, he’s starting fresh somewhere new, and his relationship with Oliver is growing into something romantic.

If I were to bring it to a editor in hopes of publishing Black Velvet, I do not doubt that they would probably have me end it on that nod towards the future, and hopeful note, with Oliver and Tobias watching the honeymoon (before the NSFW haha!) after all the internal conflict Tobias had in regards to their relationship before that chapter.

I wanted to post this announcement to say that I have no problem continuing to write in Black Velvet for fun, if that’s what you guys would like, but it will likely just be a slice of life/love story tale from here on out. Completely character-centric.

I hesitate to do this — as I read exit surveys, and some complain about the staleness of this rewrite’s recent chapters. (Please don’t leave me exit surveys, I hate the discouragement of reading them and can’t turn them off, hahaha)

I don’t want any complaints about Black Velvet being boring. I know I should’ve ended it at the honey moon chapter, but I also know that you guys love these two. If I continue on, this direction would be pretty anti-climatic, because that’s the direction the book is heading towards — peace.

Their life and growth is ongoing. It always will be. And, honestly, it really should have ended (if I was to follow a normal story formula.) but I know you all have been through so much with these two, in different rewrites, in this rewrite, so forth.

But this book is just about life. It’s not flashy and grand and brimming with drama, because real-life issues often are devastatingly hard in the simplest disguises.

If I am to continue writing in Black Velvet, the chapters will likely continue to feel episodic, I.e., Oliver and Tobias figuring out their relationship, taking steps forward together, Tobias’ life in Huxley merging with Oliver’s… etc. it also probably wouldn’t be included in a published form.

I am down to do this! I know Oliver and Tobias are the most loved characters here. So is Black Velvet’s story. But I don’t want to ruin a good thing, so if you all are feeling like things are dragging, it’s probably time to go back and wrap things up!

If you would like to keep experiencing the two as they grow, great! Let me know! But if you’re growing tired of the quiet and simple nature of these two, there’s other, dramatic and plot-filled stories available here, I promise ❤️ thanks for supporting these guys for so long!

I know I personally will always support your decisions w your stories! They’re yours, and you’ve put so much time into them. What’s important is how you feel about it! I’ll admit that I’m kind of sad I won’t get to reread the scene where Oliver hands his mom the coffee creamer and she clues in on what’s going on (I hope these arent technically spoilers??), or when Nic bursts through Toby’s door and sits in the bed w him and Oliver— just a lot of faves I’ll never get to read again lol, but that’s honestly okay!! I have them in my memories, and this version of the story is what Tobias and Oliver deserve. And tbh it also seems much more heartfelt and thought out?? Of course I adore all versions of the story, and everyone else probably does too! So don’t worry about all those exit surveys - all of us who actually love your writing will always be here to support you no matter what. We trust your decisions! You’re incredibly talented w what you do, and I’m always looking forward to seeing what you do next. You never make a wrong step, I swear! Everything you make blows all of us away every time. Thank you so much for the amazing story that is BV 💖💖
