Let's hope I don't have to re-add things in like last time. I wasn't quite sure what to call this, but it touches on worldbuilding, magic systems, and backstories in particular. This is mostly about what kind of exposition you should deliver and when you should deliver it. Of course, I use the word 'should' tentatively. I think too many people say there are 'shoulds' and 'should nots' of writing, when in reality, people can write how they want. What matters to me is whether it is the best way to relate to the reader.

I was very thankful that you discussed about the tendency of people with great worlds to open their first chapter with a huge exposition dump that readers don't care about. I think that far too few people address this.

Iarthoir Tempest

Maybe not obscure, but this universe uses a short passage at the start of ever book which lays the groundwork for the universe [literally] and leaves background knowledge to be referenced in conversations. I'm talking about Warhammer 40K

Hello Future Me

It's incredibly common and something we all struggle with because we, as authors, know how much we love these worlds we have built!

Hello Future Me

I actually know very little about WH40K! I've heard it's amazing, of course, and always wanted to get into table-top wagaming myself. Never quite had the time or community to learn, though.
