My fellow bassists, I hope you're doing great!

Tomorrow I'm releasing a video where I teach you how to play Victor Wooten's Classical Thump. It's a great piece to learn because it's a very effective way to practise double-thumbing - Victor actually wrote it as a double-thumb etude for his own practice, at least initially.

The main challenge is just how physically exhausting it is to play, at least if you're new to the technique. There's tons of repetition especially rhythmically, so once you get good at the technique, it's not quite as tough as it sounds. Having said that, don't worry if it takes you a while because it definitely took me a few months of very focused practice to get this one learned!

As always, let me know if you have any questions or comments and I'll make sure to respond ASAP!

The Olympics

Almost there put my nose to the grind stone and nearly have it at full speed after a day and a half of effort

Ralyks

My thumb keeps getting stuck, but not on the way up. I get stuck on the way down and don't make it through the string. Anyone else have the same problem or have some advice on how to fix this? I may post a video on YouTube or something to show my form and hopefully can get some advice that way. (Oh, it may be important to point out that I have literally no hyperextension of the thumb joint. My thumbs are extremely straight and all my joints throughout my body are stiff)

So your thumb gets stuck on the string that you're slapping? i.e. not on the fretboard or body of the bass?
