My fellow bassists,
The winner of this month's poll was "using music theory to write basslines" and so I decided to fulfill your wishes in a way that I think is a bit more practical and interesting than just talking about the concepts.
There's a lot to be learned from analyzing the bass lines of legendary bassists, and in this video I break down Paul McCartney's bass line on "Something" by The Beatles. I chose this one because in my opinion it's one of the most beautiful bass lines ever. It's quite simple and follows a lot of the golden rules of bass playing, with just enough "rule-breaking" to make it interesting and unique. For all those reasons, I thought it would be a great way to teach you some music theory approaches to writing your own bass lines.
As always, let me know if you have any questions and I'll make sure to respond ASAP! Thanks for coming here and learning with me, have a great weekend and I'll see you in the next lesson!
Charles
