LFG! One of my fave episodes and such a unique, fun & humourous way to recap the entire series. Look forward to watching the reaction - Thanks Fam 🙏🏽.

Tread lightly - this is one of the more beloved episodes of the show and most fans will absolutely fight you about it supposedly "missing the mark" as you say. It's a classic end-of-series recap episode, but done in a unique way that gives it value as its own episode. You will find it in many people's top 5 episodes because of its self-satire and subtle in-jokes.

Yup it is a recap that most of animes show from that period of time has. It was also meant to be to prepare u for the finale since unlike you guys most of us that time we has to wait weeks for next chapter so it was a good cap before the finale for refresh our memories

Martin Robertson

Thank God you two have editors. You're gonna need them for Sozin's Comet.

This is one of the most creative ways to recap a show, I’ve seen. Like Sokka said at the end, the way they show the special FX is really clever and entertaining. And the self-awareness/satire is just on point: the great divide, how Azula escaped/disappeared from all of them easily, Jet’s end, etc. A really really well made episode.

Sean Carroll

yeah i also dont get the appeal for this episode, seems to be just dumb filler before the finale. One of the worst eps in the show definitely

Anonymous

Seems to miss the mark, but really its political commentary for perspective and world building, and setup for the finale

Such a meta episode - its basically taking note of all the fan theories throughout the shows run as well as the audience reactions to certain episodes, like skipping the great divide on purpose (considered the worst episode), zukos hair, the drill episode being boring, & the ambiguity around jets death. The reactions from the fans on this episode is very hot or cold. If you look at it from a perspective of the last episode before a finale, its not great, but as a standalone, its actually pretty funny. its grown on me over the years, i felt the same way at first but when you remember the finale is 4 parts its like theres 3 more episodes before the actual resolution of the series so this episode doesnt feel as wasted

This episode is so funny and iconic, it’s one of the ones I personally went back to multiple times. As a kid/teen, the comedy (for me) was a massive part of the appeal, so I find it strange when you guys don’t vibe with that side of the show. Ultimately it was a kids show, and I’m glad they never lost the goofiness. It doesn’t always take itself too seriously, and this episode was a chance for the writers to be fan-servicey and make fun of itself. Stray thoughts: - Katara saying “My heart is so full of hope, it’s making me tearbend” and Zuko ‘dying’ while screaming out “honour” - perfect parodies of both characters, I remember these lines killed me the first I watched. - “avatar state, yip yip!” Is such a funny way to butcher two of Aang’s references, disappointed you guys didn’t (visibly) catch that. - Not sure if you realised, but “the great divide” is the episode im pretty sure you guys skipped - “People getting bored of the play” that part was a nod to criticisms of finding the drill episode boring, not that the whole play was boring lol - the landscape of TV when avatar was airing was longer TV seasons because of syndications/reruns, which is why the series had a lot of “filler” and not main-plot focused. Shorter TV seasons and binge watching has negated the need for these kind of episodes these days. - Between GOT and Avatar reactions, I noticed Spartan’s favourite words are “honour” and “warrior” lmaoo ;) reminds me of Zuko’s character in the play

I feel like saying “one of the worst eps in the show” is pretty close minded, especially since it’s considered one of the funniest. Just because something doesn’t suit your particular taste doesn’t mean its bad

Franky E

Yeah if you’re looking for deeper meaning then you c an say it reflects real-world media and propaganda; how high-profile individuals enter the public consciousness but their stories get warped due to misinformation or the powers-that-be choosing to portray events as something they’re not etc.

Yeah I have to agree with the other comments, true longtime Avatar fans LOVE this episode and you wont find many sharing the opinion that it missed the mark or wasn’t necessary. In fact I wish MORE SHOWS would devote an entire episode to finding a creative way to recap the entire series thus far, because it really highlights just how remarkable of a journey the characters have been on and grown through in such a short amount of episodes.

Haven't watched the reaction yet, but seeing so many comments here pouring their heart out about how incredible and genius and amazing this episode is, my first thought is "oh, so S&P didn't like it, huh". It's a really easy pattern to pick up on. The less S&P like an episode, the more people in the comments write essays about it. It's almost like they should be the ones watching the show instead since clearly they like it more. Go ahead and like whatever episodes you like. I know you love the show as a whole, just like we all do, so there is nothing to worry about.

Ah well . . . . on to the finale!

Actually when it aired on Nickelodeon, it was one episode each week (Friday) two parters were usually an hour long on Fridays as well. The season finale was on a Saturday afternoon 2hrs! Was literally like a movie. Such awesome time!

I feel like 90 percent of the episodes in this show are one of the best episodes😀😀

It was the norm back then, still pretty cool to have watched this when it first premiered.

spartanandpudgey

it definitely had some great moments! i guess we just wanted more emotion and intensity in the build up to Sozins comet

Pogger White

I love that we get this silly, lighthearted episode before the extremely intense and emotional series finale personally. It's a fun way to recap the show without just re showing us old scenes. With how serious the ending is, I think this was a good way to do it

Jenny Tolls

I remember watching this when it first aired! It felt like such a big event! And then I felt so empty afterwards because my favorite show ended 😣

Nigel W.

Well with the finale in context you’ll appreciate this light hearted recap more since the finale is so emotional and intense. No need for the recap to be as well.

Jenny Tolls

It's not a dumb episode lol it's a fun way to recap major plot points and the journey that brought everyone to this point. I can understand the frustration with this episode because it comes after a series of bangers and this episode just slows the pace. But it's still a good episode and it's the last time we saw the gang hang out as friends.

Unique

"and yes, I did have pickled fish" 😭😆

Funny story- originally when they were creating the character of Toph, they’d thought of the character as a big muscled dude, but eventually landed on a small blind girl. So the play Toph is a super deep meta joke 😂. The other meta joke is the fact they skipped over the Great Divide in the play- that’s widely considered to be the worst episode of the whole series.

This is an episode that aged poorly for the streaming/binging era but was important in an era where you couldn’t just watch any episode you wanted whenever and if you missed a new episode, you were at the mercy of reruns to see it again. I don’t think I was ever able to watch the episode where Jet “dies” because I missed it and it wasn’t heavy in the rerun rotation, so I remember seeing the mega commentary on that in this episode before ever managing to watch the real one.

I think this episode is work of art it has so many inside jokes of the show and I personally need a little bit of a break between emotional episodes. So yeah I don’t get how someone can not like it 😅
