Full Length Reaction Guide

We take copyright law very seriously, so you will have to sync up our reaction to your own version of the show/movie. To help, we have a range of guiding tools throughout the reaction to help you sync up with us, including a small snippet of the scene to ensure you are in sync.  Any instances in which you see the screen cut, this means we’ve had technical difficulties or have skipped a potential disruptions/bloopers. This means you will need to sync up your copy of the show again, if we are unable to edit these cuts seamlessly into the next scene. An updated timecode will be provided on the screen.  Anytime we pause, there will be timer/countdown on screen to prompt you. So if we’re about to pause, there’ll be a countdown, and you are expected to pause as the number reaches 0. The same will happen when we press play after pausing. You will press play as the number reaches 0.  Here are some popular ways people sync up the reaction with their own copy of the show:

  • Use a dual monitor PC setup to watch both screens simultaneously

  • Use the split screen functions on your computer/phone to watch them side by side

  • Chromecast / Screenshare one screen to your TV while watching the other screen on a phone or laptop

  • HDMI your laptop / tablet to the TV and use the TV as a 2nd monitor (not mirror display)

  • Use your Smart TV or Gaming console to play the YouTube reaction and your Phone/Laptop to play the show (or other way around)

  • Use Google chromes picture in picture mode to overlay your own copy of the show over our reaction in a smaller window size (Link to the extension here: ( https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/picture-in-picture-extens/hkgfoiooedgoejojocmhlaklaeopbecg?hl=en )

That one shot is a masterpiece of directing imo , not much in television comes close to the writing and direction of this episode, arguably one of the best episodes of all time .

The camerawork, the writing, the acting.. this episode does not miss - its so tragic and beautiful! The yelling at each other and Nell's coffin falling over like she's just screaming at them to shut up and get along, so perfect. The gradual reveal of answers will not disappoint, don't worry about connecting each thing! I don't know if you spotted the long shots this episode, the opening scene was like 15 minutes long before a cut, so well done. Theres a short behind the scenes clip on the Netflix yt about how they did it

I don’t think you guys noticed but this episode is a masterpiece in cinematography. There are multiple one shots in this episode that are crazy long and complicated. There is a video that goes behind the scenes and shows how they made it. Apparently it took months for just this episode.

The one shot at the start, the entire episode was like 4 shots in total, amazing. Also the statues in the background kept changing, but you had to be looking closely to see that.

Great reaction as always! I think a lot of people come out of this episode strongly disliking Steve. He's not my favorite character either, and he is extremely flawed--as are all of the characters in this show--but his feelings are much more nuanced than they seem on the surface. As viewers, our frustrations with Hugh's refusal to reveal anything to his kids regarding the most critical moment of all of their lives is the same frustration Steve feels. As you pointed out, Steve is always looking for the 'logical' answer, which in this case is mental illness. He's seeing black and white, but the truth is always more complicated than that, more gray. Even his own visions he views as mental illness passed down to him through his family. So in Steve's mind, his father is once again perpetuating the very thing that is killing their family by refusing to acknowledge or talk about it. Yes, ultimately Steve is, in many ways, at fault here--especially in saying that the wrong parent died, which of course is a terrible thing to say--but that's easy for us to see as the audience. No one here is fully innocent, or fully guilty. These characters are so exceptional because we can go from being frustrated and angry at them in one moment to feeling for them in the next. I def felt this when it shows Steve crying while lifting the coffin right after shouting horrible things at his dad. Also as others have mentioned, the directing of this episode is superb; there are only about 4 total camera cuts over nearly 60 mins. That's INSANELY hard to get right as a cast and crew, major props to everyone involved. On YouTube there's a great 7-8 minute documentary about how they pulled this off!

Great reaction! It's getting alot juicier now 😃.. I don't know if you have noticed, I don't think you've mentioned it but the actor who plays Steve is the same man who plays Daario Naharis in Game Of Thrones. When I first watched this I knew I had seen him somewhere and took me ages to figure who he was 🤣.. Can't wait for the next one.

JonSnow21

Thank you 🙏 I don’t understand how people can’t get his perspective. Most people would be him in this situation.

I don’t think y’all get that Steve is literally seeing ghosts and still refuses to accept it as reality soo it’s just that he also believes he has mental illness . He isn’t just calling everyone crazy and excluding himself, he genuinely believes that the whole family has mental illness.

YES! I never noticed the statues the first time I watched it. I was so creeped out when the mom came out of Shirl's room, and the statue was looking straight at her!

My favorite part of this episode was young Nelly talking about how she was there the whole time, but no one could see her, and then it pans to the Bent-Neck-Lady Nelly, who was also there the whole time, but no one could see her. yeah... That broke me lol

yess this last line and then another last line in a later episode always kill me

This episode might be perfect. The writing, the performances, the camera work, the choreography involved in the one-shots...Stunning.
