I’m so glad yall chose to watch this because it’s so wholesome and inspirational and you need that balance with all the crazy movies you guys have been reacting to lately 💀

Chris B

Never clicked on anything so fast

Reaction Junkie

Hi, I came to cry with everyone haha. Such a good movie, no matter how many times I watch it the bench in the park scene gets me every time. Cannot wait to see S&P's take on the movie.

nezudev

YES the newer Jumanji movies are terrible... the original is such a classic RW film.

flynhwn

RIP Robin. Thanks for filling my childhood with so many amazing characters. Such a talent, not only hilarious but also a phenomenal dramatic actor. One of my favorite scenes in this movie is when Will rips his life apart looking at that painting. The way Robin emotes so much pain with no dialogue staring at that painting after. Then at his dinner table in his apartment. He's just staring at nothing and lost in thought. You feel right down to your core the loss and the effect it has on him.

Scott S

Another quite touching film with Robin, What Dreams May Come. Has been one of my favorite performers since I was a kid watching Mork and Mindy. Also recommend watching some of his early standup.

Oliver

Stellan Skarsgård is actually bootstrap bill in pirates aswell

Petteri Ahlberg

It’s 2:40 am here and i have work in the morning but i just wanted to thank you both. This reaction was simply perfect 👌🏻 Thank you 🤗

crispy chicken

- "I love the banter". That's one of the reasons I recommended "Lock, Stock and 2 Smoking Barrels". It's a black comedy crime movie by Guy Ritchie. - Yeah, Robin Williams was an amazing actor. I guess you'll be adding Night at the Museum and Hook then? 😅 - Tbh I wasn't the biggest fan of Ben Affleck until this movie and Pearl Harbor. I can definitely recommend that one.

J_Fley .

Should put the Shawshank Redemption in a poll.

Shay

Matt Damon and Ben Affleck wrote this movie together (their first screenplay ever) and won the Oscar for Best Screenplay. They were the youngest to ever win that award (Affleck was 25, Damon was 27). Also, you guys mentioned how authentic the dialogue is and Ben Affleck has said that when they started writing it, they didn’t feel like they were really nailing realistic dialogue. So they started just talking to each other through each scene instead of writing it down. That’s why the conversations seem so organic. So glad you guys finally saw this one!

Jack Hirst

Fantastic reaction guys. If you want more drama/ emotional stuff 'Manchester By The Sea' is a gem. Casey Afleck is the lead & Matt Damon was a producer on it.

Oscar Wallberg

You were thinking of Flubber (1997), spartan

Deepan Nathan

Thanks guys. Enjoyed that reaction. You know Robin Williams won an Oscar for that role and Matt Damon and Ben affleck won an Oscar for writing the script. Incredible movie that I never get bored of watching

Wes

Great reaction guys! One of the things I love about this movie is that although the story is pretty simple it’s so grounded and emotionally captivating. A lot of modern movies tend to focus on other elements of filmmaking (which is not inherently wrong) but not to the same degree when it comes to the storytelling. It speaks to why movies of this kind resonate with the audience more than a lot of what you see today. There are so many 90s to early 2000s movies that also deliver a similar experience. Some examples are What’s Eating Gilbert Grape?, Matilda, The Green Mile, Forrest Gump, Cast Away and many more.

Deepan Nathan

Oh and please watch Grosse Point Blank (Minnie driver is great in that too)

Sarah

You're 100% right, Spartan, the graphics in modern movies is spectacular, no lie, but this kind of storytelling is getting harder and harder to find

Tapiocca

I'm so glad you loved the movie! It's one of my comfort films. I visited Boston last year and walked past L Street Tavern! I didn't know it was real! Then I kept telling my gf that it wasn't her fault, but no emotional breakthrough happened. A couple of 90's films I enjoy are 'My Cousin Vinny' and 'A Few Good Men.'

MagnaMoralia

While Mrs Doubtfire and Jumanji are definitely classic Robin Williams films (and definitely breezy and wholesome films at that - though I do think going back to Jumanji now, some of the vfx will stand out as quite dated today, especially to Spartan), I'd personally recommend Williams's other iconic portrayals in the likes of Dead Poets Society (in my opinion his strongest performance, where once again he takes the role of a mentor), Good Morning Vietnam (a pivotal role in his career) and the very fun and crazy The Fisher King.

Kevin Bandy

you asked for suggestions for 90's movies, well just looked at the IMDB Top 250 movies of all time list, #1 is Shawshank Redemption, so that would be a good movie to do. Also, Forrest Gump, Pulp Fiction, The Matrix, Goodfellas, Se7en, all of these are 90's movies in the top 20 on that list.

M

if you're looking for classic movies, the ultimate classic move is The Godfather (parts 1 & 2, not 3) It's old (early 1970s) but it really holds up more than pretty much any other movie from that era. Definitely an essential couple of movies

Justin Urameshi

This is my absolute favorite film, and every time I watch it I’m reminded why. There’s not 1 bad scene. Every character is believable and felt. There’s just the right amount of humor and an insane amount of emotional depth throughout. It being Matt & Ben’s first movie and them writing it is incredible.

Alex Ocean

Man, the "it's not your fault" scene heals parts of me every time I watch it. Absolutely love this film.

Alex Ocean

If you guys liked the storytelling in this - can you add another amazing Robin Williams movie called "Dead Poets Society"?

Farbod

Fantastic reaction. I know I have said this before but this might be my favorite reaction so far. I agree that the timing for this was perfect. Everyone needs someone like that to talk to. Robin Willams was perfect for this role. I can't imagine anyone else playing it. Dead Poets Society and Hook are two really great Robin Williams films.

SuddenImpulse

A Few Good Men is solid. Great cast too. Jack Nicholson Tom Cruise Demi Moore Kevin Bacon Kiefer Sutherland Cuba Gooding Jr.

Paul De'Armond

Cursed to serve under Davey Jones for eternity until they find his fields medal.

Elora D. Dragneel

I'm a 98' baby too! 98' baby supremacy >:D Great reaction you guys, gave me an excuse to rewatch this movie after so many years <3

Owen Hargrave

100%, I don't know if it's nostalgia but older movies seem to be better written with better characters. I feel like modern movies rely on unreal shots and CGI for their films but you don't need it, just a well written story with great dialogue and acting. Don't get me wrong though, there is definitely modern day exceptions to that still.

SuddenImpulse

its not nostalgia. the writing in a lot of modern movies is absolute garbage.

Joe Robinson

Im a 98 baby but I still think I can resonate with the time of this film as I saw my elder cousins and the like live like that at a similar age - I think that's why I can still identify with it even though I was so young. I'm so glad you guys loved my favourite movie. Deep, poignant AND comedic? Heck yea. Maybe my favourite role for Robin who will always be my favourite actor and considering complicated psychology in -everyone- you know, even yourself, being made important is so relevant because without that no-one can truly understand themselves or another unless they take the time to consider what someone might have gone through. I must have rewatched this film over 10 times, less than other films I've seen - though it always takes the cake :) So many times I was looking forward to your reaction to a certain scene and I was surprised when I realised another brilliant scene was coming before the one I was looking forward to seeing, it was just great. I will say though, you didn't make a peep when 'Written by Matt Damon and Ben Affleck' came on screen during the credits? As their almost debut film I thought it phenomenal of them to be able to write something so complex. I wish I could see more films written by them if this is the depth. <3 Thanks guys

Owen Hargrave

100% agree about horrors Spartan. I rarely see any with a meaningful and well written story, they seem to rely on jump scares etc. far too much that they lack quality in the other aspects that make a good film. Some do however, Haunting of Hill House which you're going to watch is an example, The Shining too.

Dónde está la biblioteca

From 2004, "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" is a meaty one as well.

SuddenImpulse

There are some extremely good horror but they are few and far between, so if you haven't seen many or any of them I can see one coming to this conclusion, but I think that applies to most genres. Most genres have a lot of crap or mediocre stuff that depends on tropes and weak writing, and the majority of the great stuff isn't that high numbers wise.

Dónde está la biblioteca

Perhaps unpopular opinion, but Sean's approach to therapy was inappropriate and at times unethical. He assaulted Will and threatened his life, he told personal stories about himself, they met outside the office, and he violated Will's personal space ending in hugs. I see their relationship as more of a "Big Brother" or mentor. I've had therapy for something I simply could not see my way through. I lucked out with an excellent therapist and it was life changing. She was a professional through and through. I didn't need a friend or a buddy. I had those. I needed a professional. I still think of her today and am so grateful. Having said that, the scenes between Sean and Will great for the film. I appreciate them for what they are and always, always tear up at the scene on the bench and the "it's not your fault" scene.

John Neiberger

You two absolutely must watch more Robin Williams movies, particularly the greats like Awakenings, Dead Poet's Society, What Dreams May Come, One Hour Photo... He's done so much great work.

Christopher

It’s more suspense than horror, but Signs deserves a look from what Spartan says at the end imo

Riolkin

I love Dead Poets Society! Also Patch Adams and Good Morning Vietnam. Both excellent Robin Williams movies.

Riolkin

Unrelated to the movie because I'm just sitting down to watch this reaction, just want to say I appreciate you guys adding in the platform you watched the movie on. Makes it easy to find a similar cut here in the US.

Connor W

If you guys are looking for more Robin Williams than I would suggest Insomnia. He is in it with Al Pacino and they both give great performances. I knew you guys would enjoy this movie. Good reaction as usual. Another one with Robin Williams is Awakenings.

Riolkin

Holy shit this opening discussion is so funny. Pudgey I'm with you on Jumanji, the OG is still so damn good and I promise it still holds up better than the remakes. The effects are surprisingly good. Spartan you were talking about Flubber, another great 90s movie. You should add "Classic 90's films" as a category in your rotation! After the movie: Damn I needed this rewatch more than I thought. It's been forever since I've seen this movie. Loved that you guys had a good time with this film. It's very cathartic

Dlau

Shawshank redemption is the next amazing 90s movie you're looking for :)

Sean Lobo

here to request shawshank redemption with everyone else

Omar Cornelio

GREAT REACTION TO AN AMAZING MOVIE! YOU GUYS NEED TO WATCH MY COUSIN VINNY GREAT 90S MOVIE OSCAR WINNING MARISA TOMEI AND JOE PESCI ARE GREAT

Mike Miner

As a child of the 90s, it's really difficult for me not to say that 90s movies had more substance, but who really cares about CGI and newer movies when you have masterpieces like this where you can make that human connection. To me that's what films are all about. Man, I miss Robin Williams so much! I hate to hop on the Shawshank bus, but yeah, it's a must see!

Lyn Hurst

So glad you watched this. I thought it would have the effect you described, Spartan. Yes, good to take a break from the thrillers, sci-fi, strange tropes of some directors - albeit good ones. It is so incredibly hard for a kid to get shuffled about from home to home in the foster system - let alone when someone abuses you. Kids are the center of their universe as they are growing up, which unfortunately leads them to believe that bad things other people do to them who are supposed to be their caretakers are their fault. I love that Sean mentioned about it being his choice to not be the top in his field, getting medals, running the rate race. People equate being successful at a profession, getting honors, accolades, medals, etc. as the end all. I always tell myself and my friends you are not your job, your money/possessions, degree on the wall. We are human first and what we decide to do is our business even if we don't live up to someone else's expectations. My brother wad 6'6" tall. People always asked him why he didn't play basketball. He used to say just because I am tall doesn't mean I am good at basketball.

Lyn Hurst

I second Shawshank - great movie I think Spartan & Pudgey will like.

Lyn Hurst

I love that Matt Damon and Ben Affleck wrote this movie and starred in it. It was a catalyst for their careers.

PastaDon

Finally got the chance to watch this with you guys.. This story takes place where I'm from, and I go on and on about how well Matt & Ben captured the culture, sarcasim and loyalty we have for one another.. and how sports is basically above religion here.. but the main thing I noticed watching this movie again with you guys, it is very clear how awesome of a social worker Pudge was/is.. imo.. That's why I think you'll enjoy a lot of the 90's and 2000's stories, it was all about good character writing for veiwer connection.. for example that's what made Intersteller so good, the space voyage and trying to find a new habital world was just the subject of the film, the foundation was the connection between Murph and Cooper.. Hope you don't mind Pudge, but Red Sox legend Pudge Fisk is the reason why I stopped adding the y on your name when commenting a while ago.. and if you ever came to Boston, trust me the minute locals found out your name is Pudgey, they'd all be calling you Pudge as well.. out of respect of course.. Thank you guys.. Edit: A couple movies from the 90's that have great character connection.. As Good as it Gets '97 A Beautiful mind '2001 and of course Shawshank '94 which a bunch of people already mentioned above..

Michael Short

Christian Bale is the best batman, Spartan. :)

Henkan

I absolutely second Dead Poets Society, it's such a fantastic movie and Williams owns his role!

Jamiefishing7

Don't sleep on the 80's btw. It's basically Stranger Things era. 80's movies the best imo, and the music omg!

Chucknorrass

For S&P. This isn’t related to this movie. But, why is Shutter Island locked even though it was seen 4 weeks before this?

Em & Dave

Another actor connection: Casey Affleck (brother of Ben, who played Morgan in GWH) has also appeared in Interstellar (as the older version of Cooper's son) and Oppenheimer (as Col. Boris Pash)
