Proud of Spartan for picking up pretty early that something doesn't add up. As often with movies like this, when you rewatch you will see that the clue weren't just there all along - the narration was beating you ever the head with them. I love this movie and have watched it countless times but your reaction made me remember how actually weird it is, which familiarity made me forget.

I can see how, at the time of release (1999), the plot would be a crazy plot twist. No wonder it was so popular. Watching it for the first time now makes it pretty easy to guess based on other films with similar tropes.

I hadn't seen this movie since the year it came out and it's exactly the way I remember it: that's how strong of an impression it made and how unique it was and is.

Great reaction. I do feel like you should have been just a bit better prepared going in: Fight Club is a dark comedy more than anything, and it works best if you watch it in that spirit.
