I don't think you all sound dumb. There is a lot going on in this episode and a lot of different players. There is the Crown with Churchill. There is the Section D Guys (the Priest and Mr. Jarvis), the Russians who are currently in power (I believe the Bolsheviks). Churchill is trying to help out the Duchess and her family, without the current people in power finding out about it because they want to sabotage them. Now the Peaky Blinders are going to get all caught up in the mess. Father Hughes is one or my least favorite characters so far. I never expected their dad t come back as he threatened "to cut" Arthur if he didn't leave him alone. Dad stole their money and built Arthur up on false hope he was there to work with the family again. The Duchess is something else. It is a confusing episode. One thing about this show, we never know who they will get rid of since they have no problem killing their main characters off which wasn't the case in Stranger Things and not until the end of Breaking Bad.

A quick simplified history lesson to help (hopefully): At this point historically all of the European nobility were being overthrown. Many of the royal families had been overthrown before WWI or shortly after. The Russian nobility (the duchess and her aunt, etc) were all chased out of Russia after the death of the Romanovs (The last Czar or Russia/Anastasia). As the Russian nobility left they took as much as they could in Jewels and money. It's important to realize the Russian nobility were living in the kind of wealth we associate with Versailles. Actually, the Russian wealth would make Versailles look middle class, it was insane amounts of money. While they are living like this the rest of the country was quite literally starving to death. This plays into why the duchess is so reckless and crazy. She's basically an original trust fund kid who is so rich that there are no rules, and nothing is exciting anymore. Because the European noble families were mostly all cousins at this time the British King tried to save as many of his cousins, aka the Russian Czar (king), as possible. Churchill and other British politicians feared that if they let too many exiled nobles stay in Britain, the British people would get angry. Maybe the British people would do what all the other countries had done, and overthrow their king and the noble families in England. Meanwhile, the few Russian families that were able to escape the revolution wanted their lives back. This is where the Shelbys come in. The Russians are trying to get tanks to go win their homes again, but the British govt can't just give them tanks without pissing off the British people and the new govt in Russia. The people Tommy spoke to at the end of the episode with Ada are part of the new govt in Russia. They think the priest is helping them sabotage the duchess and her family. Tommy just told them that the priest has his own plan, and if the priest's plan works it will be the Shelbys who are killed for treason. Fingers crossed that made some kind of sense, or I'm coming back to delete this.

I’d definitely recommend you rewatch these past few episodes again if possible. I think the shock of Grace dying (and now Arthur’s dad) has left you guys a bit confused as to what’s going on. I totally understand being skepticle of deaths after everything you’ve watched but at least with this show, it’s better to assume that it’s real, because this show doesn’t shy away from killing off characters ❤️ Just an fyi, the reason that Tommy didn’t want to sit at the table and eat with the priest is because of the fact he’s a child abuser, which he finds disgusting.

This show is pretty confusing, especially this season, so no need to feel like you need to know everything after every episode. I know I'm jumping ahead a few months here but I can't wait to watch Dark with S&P, it might actually be too much to follow lol

Polly married Michael's father to become a Grey, but she was the father's sister and a birn Shelby. The dad and Polly were both Irish Travellers (Gypsie, Tinker are considered slurs these days but were very common back then and used in the show), and their mother was Romani, a different culture of travellers that have a distinct identity in mainland Europe. Irish Travellers have a very interesting and insular culture - they can be very superstitious but are almost always Catholic, in the past magic and fortunes were a large part of their identity. If I were maybe to be a bit too negative, which is complicated because Travellers are very often discriminated against in Ireland and the UK, I would say that Travellers consider them a law unto themselves. This results in blood feuds, leaving education early, and crime in many traveller families. The nomadic bit - living in caravans and being horse people - is still present today in some families, though many have become like the Shelbys and 'settled' ie. living in a house. The show does a good job of riding the line of an authentic representation of the culture and playing up the violence and magic. Great reaction as always!

Tommy being able to do all of those conversations with a fractured skull and internal bleeding is one of the coldest things a character has ever done…But guys sometimes y’all act like Tommy’s god or something and he has a plan for every single possible outcome…The reason that the hit on the priest failed was because Polly couldn’t keep her mouth shut , it was all her fault and Also I don’t understand how you guys are soo surprised that Tatiana (Dutchess) could seduce Tommy , like have you seen her? Lol . Lizzie already said Thomas and her have been hooking up from time to time , So obviously he would go for someone like her if he went for Lizzie , trying to say that as nicely as possible lol. Also Guys the Dad is dead like do y’all think this is show to do nonsense like that? Not everything is a conspiracy, just take things at face value and accept a death for once 😂.

The problem is they never seem to accept that a character has died even when it’s soo clear that they have ,even though 99 percent of the time they are wrong about it and use the 1 percent of the time as justification that the fanbase is wrong for calling them on it .S&P are my favourite reactors but them never being able to accept when a character dies definitely takes away from reactions at times.

Lol I agree. Love these guys and love these reactions but in this particular show, the endless second guessing of literally everything is a bit tiresome. Tommy isn't god, he isn't omniscient, not everything he does is according to a plan, and he doesn't have a backup plan to a backup plan to everything. Show wouldn't be fun if he was always 357 steps ahead of everyone.
