Franky E

Mello dying this way stands out to me as one of the dumber writing choices in this last arc imo, I feel like the whole blanket thing was definitely not justifiable as him taking precautions considering what’s at stake. Like he was willing to blow up a bunch of people including himself earlier, and yet had the decency to offer Takada privacy? I don’t know. I just thought he was more ruthless than that for some reason.

Tingeling

If Light hadn’t crossed the moral event horizon before, he most definitely did so now. Whether or not he had feelings for Takada he knew she had feelings for him, and he used her for his own purposes the whole time. To then go and murder her in such an agonizing way - burning alive - is grotesque, even more so because he knew how frightened she was. I mean, he could have written that she set the fire but dies from inhaling the smoke, at least that’s infinitely less painful. I feel like the Death Note corrupts in a similar way to the One Ring. Different people are corrupted in different ways/ to different degrees, depening on what’s in them to corrupt. The One Ring tried to corrupt Samwise, but it only managed to make him envision himself as the GOAT of gardening. I don’t feel the corrupting power of the Death Note fully absolves Light, especially for his unspeakable cruelity in this episode.
