Light already beat L, the world’s greatest detective. If Light doesn’t get sloppy then it would be safe to assume there is no possibility of him getting caught which would take all the tension out of the story. Also, without L to challenge him he thinks everyone else is below him so he makes decisions as if he’s trying to outsmart people who aren’t as intelligent as himself. So he’s not playing the game the same way he would against L. The story has to go that way though because if it didn’t we know for sure he’d never have a chance of losing. As of rn we’re unsure if he will win or lose

As I remember correctly, this scene where N goes super saiyan was much more interesting in the Manga. There, N has a whole panel where his inner monologue is shown and you can regocnize how he connects all the information to find Mikami as the suspect. It shows so much more how intelligent N is.
