Hey everyone! It's already been 10 years since I've started using Unity 🙀

Throwback

Here's a peek at Light Fairytale from my first Unity month in March 2014!

Started with a lowpoly 3D style, making all the art myself.

And here's something from a bit later, May 2014. Spot any familiar scenes?

Super Night Riders S1

Check out the final lab suit 3D model of the mysterious girl from the Light Fairytale series.

I've updated my font/translation system to support tons more languages.

Unlike Light Fairytale, Super Night Riders is mostly just menus, making translations a breeze.

I've jazzed up the UI options with theme presets inspired by my various characters...

... plus one bonus. Can you tell the reference?

The UI now shifts smoothly for portrait displays.

Yep, now you can totally play in top-down view on a sideways CRT, or any modern tilt-supporting display.

Bonus

Meet Yumi, a brand-new character designed by Nachiru, the Japanese illustrator who brought us Miyu about a decade ago.

The star of this month's 4K wallpaper!

What's Next

Next month, I'm all in on Super Night Riders S1 as we approach the launch.

Racing against time to hit the planned release date 😅

That's it for now!

Thanks as always for your support and patience.

Catch you next time!

The first question I had, will Yumi be appearing in an upcoming game, be it Light Fairytale, Super Night Riders or something else? For the second question.. I've been on this kick of backing games on Kickstarter, would it be easier to do one to raise all the money you need for a game, or would it be too much of a hassle because you are a small team?

Yes, Yumi will appear in my upcoming games! I did try to fund Light Fairytale Episode 1 in 2016 with a Kick, but failed at around 30% of the goal. Unless you have a strong marketing plan and invest yourself full time during the month, preferably with a dedicated team, I don't think you can succeed. Even more so now that many successful Kicks have failed to deliver, so players are more precautious. Hopefully Super Night Riders S1 will be successful though, as I think it will be my main source of funding for Light Fairytale Episode 3 - as Super Night Riders 2016 was the main source of funding for Light Fairytale Episode 1 after the failed Kick.
